MORE RE: MRS. KNOX [Jed Babbin] Just spoke to another one of Dubya's squadron mates from the 111th. (I don't know how to do superscripts on e-mail). He passed on the Question of the Day for Mrs. Knox: You said that Mr. Bush got into the National Guard on the basis of preferential treatment "...because there were a lot of other boys in there the same way." Does that include your son, Ted, who joined the squadron in about 1972? Posted at 01:47 PM

No one waited until the day that got drafted to avoid the draft. Numbers were drawn in advance and everyone pretty much knew that really low numbers would get drafted. When Nixon stopped the war and ended the draft, many had already enlisted in fear of the draft.
OMG, you couldn't make this stuff up!
EVERYONE SHOULD SEND THIS TO DRUDGE
Good point. Rather is not just pissing off ex- and current Nat. Guardsmen, but also those people who didn't even join the NG during the VN period. I was 1A for a number of years, but was never called up.
I mentioned something to my hubby about it at the time...
I am not even kidding.. So Did Dan already know about this too? This is too Funny! I(f anyone TIVO'ed.. go look.
You may be on to something.

Look, I'm normally a kind person. But it's time to pull the walker from under that democrat hack posing as a sweet old lady. If she can't take the heat, then get the hell out of Dan Rather's kitchen.
I thought he was still in Cambodia...
I saw a retired TANG officer interviewed on tv, Friday I think, Brit I think, the guy said that slots for TANG pilots was a fairly small pool (not big numbers on a waiting list). Reason being the qualification requirements necessary to be a eligable to be a jet fighter pilot were/are among the most stringent.
Not to besmirch him, but if I recall correctly John McCain ejected from 4 jets, while not in combat, before ejecting in N Vietnam...apparently flying those things requires a heck of a lot of skill and talent.
Nobody will EVER have a chance, on camera, to put that question to Mrs. Knox. She has provided useful assistance to Dan Rather. She's done now.
