Its beyond pitiful, its beyond embarrassing, its now in the zone of dangerous, said Sen. Chuck Hagel, R-Neb., referring to figures showing only about 6 percent of the reconstruction money approved by Congress last year has been spent. We know that the provision of adequate security up front is requisite to rapid progress on all other fronts, said Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Ron Schlicher. Related story Powell doubts WMD will be found White House spokesman Scott McClellan said circumstances in Iraq have changed since last year. Its important that you have some flexibility. But Hagel said the shift in funds does not add up in my opinion to a pretty picture, to a picture that shows that were winning. But it does add up to this: an acknowledgment that we are in deep trouble. 'Lack of planning apparent' Hagel, Committee Chairman Richard Lugar, R-Ind., and other committee members have long argued even before the war that administration plans for rebuilding Iraq were inadequate and based on overly optimistic assumptions that Americans would be greeted as liberators. Our committee heard blindly optimistic people from the administration prior to the war and people outside the administration what I call the dancing in the street crowd, that we just simply will be greeted with open arms, Lugar said. The nonsense of all of that is apparent. The lack of planning is apparent. He said the need to shift the reconstruction funds was clear in July, but the administration was slow to make the request. This is an extraordinary, ineffective administrative procedure. It is exasperating from anybody looking at this from any vantage point, he said.

I know I spelled it wrong. I noticed it later, but didn't bother to fix it. I didn't think he used it incorrectly. He used it properly, as in a gilded cage. I'm saying it was very awkwardly placed. And it's just not a commonly used word today. Say sugar coated. That's a modern term regular people would understand.
Well I give a pass for those who use words that few understand. I do that myself. I have posted the word "lagniappe" more than once on this site, along with "ersatz," "sociolistic" "eristic," and one about the scales falling off referring to Dems - a medical term. Words are my friend. I like them.
Funny, it's not in the msnbc transcript of his speech. Must have been an ad lib. I just think it sounded a little sissified, and a little over the heads of some registered voters. I think the rule of thumb is to shoot for 8th grade level for a general audience. Sorry, nothing against having a vocabulary, or being able to read William F. Buckley without a dictionary handy, but it just sounded ...ill-fitted, ill-suited, ill-timed, improper, inapropos, inconsonant, incorrect, indecorous, inept, off base, unfitting.
The only problem I have with the situation in Iraq is that it appears that the military is on hold until our elections are over. That is a bad move. We have the "insurgents" clustered in about 3 cities. We need to actually "re declare war" and wipe them out once and for all. It may mean a general uprising OR it could just as well be met with the rest of the country breathing a sigh of relief. I think a lot of our problem is that the Iraqis are now wondering if we are as tough as they thought we were. I don't think GW can keep this bottled up for another month.
The ultimate solution in Iraq is through Syria and especially Iran.

Your correct! And what are we waiting for? Maybe just maybe we are waiting for these last two countries to go nuclear to give us an excuse for nuking them. I say that sounds like a good idea but better not wait a moment to long or they might throw the first punch.
I agree with that en toto. The dogs of war are penned up. Bush making a big mistake there. The object is to kill islamofascist pigs and there are plenty of targets. Let slip the dogs.
ditto from another nebraskan. the guy is always negative. notice he offers no constructive advice, only criticism.
Didactic pedant! Cease your supercilious impertinence.
1) Declare war on Al Qaeda and any states who did not immediately put their domestic security apparatus under United States control.
2) Cancel all visas held by citizens or subjects of Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Iraq, Iran, Yemen, Egypt, Syria, Libya, Algeria, or Morocco. Detain or expel all former visa holders.
3) Issue a call for volunteers to serve in a 120-division United States force to occupy and reconstruct the above-referenced barbarian lands. Introduce legislation to activate the Selective Service System to draft up to ten million men, as required to develop such an Army.
4) Seize forward operating bases in Northern Saudi Arabia and Western Iraq, to stage the US Army into the areas to be occupied.
5) Conclude a mutual defense treaty with India to promote the liquidation of (former West) Pakistan.
6) Militarize the Mexican border by seizing a defense zone fifty miles into Mexican territory and expelling any Mexicans living there.
That's the plan. No "lack of planning" there, eh?
