Established fact: the memos Dan Rather used in his 60 Minutes II segment are forgeries.
The WASHINGTON POST has reported the memos originated from a Kinko's in Abilene Texas.
Bill Burkett, a man with a long festering grudge against the Bush family lives in Baird Texas, 25 miles from Abilene. It has been report Mr. Burkett has an account at Kinko's
The obvious conclusion would be Mr. Burkett is the source of the memos. Case closed. End of Story. And the DNC and Dan Rather would have us believe the story is over. They want to get to the substance. Problem is that ending is way too neat. I am convinced this goes back to the DNC and the information is out there, waiting for us. I believe it can be proven. But it is going to take some work.
The story is NOT the content of the memos. The story is:
Who faxed them to CBS?
Is the DNC/Kerry Campaign involved?
If the DNC/Kerry Campaign is involved, can it be proven?
Was Dan Rather a willing participant?
I believe the above questions can be answered with certainty. We need another central thread to focus on this chapter of the story. It is a place where documentation can be gathered, facts confirmed, wild speculation disgarded, rumors dismissed, and logical, reasonable conclusions drawn.
This is from my post on another thread: Rather Concedes Papers Are Suspect (Rather Talks of Questions On Papers (on DRUDGE) #127 posted on 09/16/2004

As more information flows, I am convinced this is a DNC coordinated smear effort. Case in point:
Ex-Texas Guardsman eyed in Bush memo leak posted on 09/16/2004 2:35:47 AM EDT by Anti-Bubba182
"...Mr. Burkett's attorney, David Van Os, said yesterday through a spokeswoman that he has been instructed by his client not to comment. The New York Times reported yesterday that Mr. Van Os refused to say if his client played a role in providing the memos to CBS.
The New York Times quoted Mr. Van Os as saying, "If, hypothetically, Bill Burkett or anyone else, any other individual, had prepared or had typed on a word processor as some of the journalists are presuming, without much evidence, if someone in the year 2004 had prepared on a word processor replicas of documents that they believed had existed in 1972 or 1973 which Bill Burkett has absolutely not done" then he continued, "what difference would it make?" ....." excerpted from the Washington Times.

"Here's a photo of David Van Os, the spokesman for Bill Burkett of Memogate fame, addressing a major John Kerry for President rally in Austin last month."

You might also be interested to know that David Van Os was an associate in the law firm of David R. Richards.
For those of you that haven't made the connection yet, David Richards is the husband of Ann Richards, the former Governor of Texas that was defeated by George W. Bush.
Do you smell a bit of vendetta here?

Several weeks or maybe a month ago, I watched 2 newsclips which I believe (speculation only) were designed to generate interest in this story. The first was an article in Salon Salon.com News | George W. Bush's missing year Sept 2, 2004. I do not have the whole article [refuse to register] , I believe Mrs. Allison is laying a groundwork for the Killian memos. This may be the article which describes a perceived snub by the Bush family towards the Killians. If anyone has that article, please post link or quote.
I saw another TV news clip and I am desperately looking for the source. It states implicitly that the video Ben Barnes made was done at the request of John Kerry. If anyone remembers the report or has a link to a source on that one, please post here.
That's why Burkett was offered up to all the media last night, conveniently, right after the secretary's piece on 60 minutes. Rep in Congress saw that, pulled back the requested investigation, and now the ball is back our blogosphere's court. An investigation would pre-empt the bigger story here, which is a coordinated effort between the DNC/CBS and the Democratic Candidate for President.

This may be a point of interest. Most Kinko type places have video monitors. The fax usually indicates a date and time. Would it not be of interest to review the video's of the time an place in question? Not that CBS would have any interest in revealing that.
Please FReepmail me if you want on or off my infrequent miscellaneous ping list.
It does for me. Jerry Killian's widow is a "Bushie," or "partisan political operative." She doesn't count for anything. Jerry Killian's fellow officers who do not back the CBS story's premise (several) are the same sort of unreliable people. They mean nothing.
Ben Barnes, perjurer and Democratic fundraiser ("Hey! What's the matter with THAT?") though he may be, is an unimpeachable source. Bill Burkett, never mind his past mental health problems and seeming fixation with Bush, is an unimpeachable source. They and any documents they bring are a "preponderance of evidence."
If CBS's own experts warn in advance that the documents at very best cannot be authenticated and are highly questionable, the "preponderance of evidence" means it's OK to go ahead.
That indeed tells me something. This story was going to happen no matter what. Probably because something called OPERATION FAVORITE SON demanded that it happen.

John Kerry for President - Key Unanswered Questions: Bushs Record In The National Guard
I hope the FEC and FBI are looking into this.
This is not my opinion as a conservative. This is my opinion as an American that will not tolerate fraud in the electoral process.
Here's the thing about people who are legitimately unstable. They operate in their own world. I don't think Burkett knows the plot, but he won't take a bullet for the DNC. If they offer him up, watch him turn so quick heads will spin. He may be mad at Bush, but the DNC are going to stab him in the back - big difference. He has some obvious delusions of granduer and paranoia - not a good mix.
I am betting the secret service has tabs on him, so he won't be "committing suicide" any time soon either.
If you read comments from his attorney today, his attorney (read about him upthread) sounded pretty nervous. If Burkett decides to unload, which he might, it will be all over. He didn't type the memos - they were interspersed with his stuff to make it look like they came from him. As for the Kinko's account? Well, yes. He's been faxing them to everybody. He's nuts.
He'll unload on one of those reporters if some law enforcement shows up to talk to him. Just watch.
IMHO ; )
Dear Protect,
I haven't looked closely at the entire thread, so maybe someone else has noted this. Mr. Burkett is a Democrat Party operative.
See this URL: http://ace.mu.nu/archives/046126.php
Note especially:
"Shadowy Link Uncovered: Apparently the noted former-Bush-supporter Burkett served as head of the Steering Committee for David Van Os campaign for Texas Party Chair [of the Democrat Party]."
Here is a URL from 2002 in which Mr. Burkett describes some of his activities in the Texas Democrat Party:

Bill Burkett is a Democrat operative who likely forged documents to libel a sitting president.

A lunatic doesn't hire an attorney running for Supreme Court of Texas. Absolutely not.
OK you are CBS and you get faxed memo which you have to confirm. If the DNC said it was good would you run with it? If some crank from Texas said it was good would you run with it? Does it seem odd that they get this memo just when Kerry is getting killed by the Swifties?
CBS was told it was good by a reliable souce they trusted, the DNC/Kerry campaign. Now if only Dan will tell the truth. HaHaHa I made a joke.
That is so September 8 talk.
Please.
You need Missy Kelley to connect the dots. The best I've ever seen.
Good One!
If the memos were faxed by Burkett the night before broadcast (or whenever Dan originally claimed), then Burkett was set-up "just in case".
It has already been proven Rather and CBS both had the memos prior to that date/time, and this was to cover for it in case they were busted!
I've got a memo from Kerry to Rather, asking for some help, and suggesting that CBS come up with a story to deflect from the Swift Boat issue. I'll publicize it as soon as the ink is dry!
Huh? Please be specific.

They must have proof.
Let's start sending this to some of the blogs for follow-up.
