WAS THE DNC INVOLVED? TIME TO CONNECT THE DOTS
various

Posted on 09/16/2004 6:57:57 AM PDT by Protect the Bill of Rights

  1. Established fact: the memos Dan Rather used in his 60 Minutes II segment are forgeries.

  2. The WASHINGTON POST has reported the memos originated from a Kinko's in Abilene Texas.

  3. Bill Burkett, a man with a long festering grudge against the Bush family lives in Baird Texas, 25 miles from Abilene.  It has been report Mr. Burkett has an account at Kinko's

The obvious conclusion would be Mr. Burkett is the source of the memos.  Case closed.  End of Story.  And the DNC and Dan Rather would have us believe the story is over.  They want to get to the substance.  Problem is that ending is way too neat.  I am convinced this goes back to the DNC and the information is out there, waiting for us.  I believe it can be proven.  But it is going to take some work.

The story is NOT the content of the memos.  The story is:

  1. Who faxed them to CBS?

  2. Is the DNC/Kerry Campaign involved?

  3. If the DNC/Kerry Campaign is involved, can it be proven?

  4. Was Dan Rather a willing participant?

I believe the above questions can be answered with certainty. We need another central thread to focus on this chapter of the story.  It is a place where documentation can be gathered, facts confirmed,   wild speculation disgarded, rumors dismissed, and logical, reasonable conclusions drawn.

This is from my post on another thread:  Rather Concedes Papers Are Suspect (Rather Talks of Questions On Papers (on DRUDGE)  #127 posted on 09/16/2004

To: shrinkermd; Anti-Bubba182; GOPcapitalist; SnowstormPatriot

As more information flows, I am convinced this is a DNC coordinated smear effort. Case in point:

Ex-Texas Guardsman eyed in Bush memo leak    posted on 09/16/2004 2:35:47 AM EDT by Anti-Bubba182

"...Mr. Burkett's attorney, David Van Os, said yesterday through a spokeswoman that he has been instructed by his client not to comment. The New York Times reported yesterday that Mr. Van Os refused to say if his client played a role in providing the memos to CBS.

The New York Times quoted Mr. Van Os as saying, "If, hypothetically, Bill Burkett or anyone else, any other individual, had prepared or had typed on a word processor as some of the journalists are presuming, without much evidence, if someone in the year 2004 had prepared on a word processor replicas of documents that they believed had existed in 1972 or 1973 — which Bill Burkett has absolutely not done" — then he continued, "what difference would it make?" ....." excerpted from the Washington Times.

You might also be interested to know that David Van Os was an associate in the law firm of David R. Richards.

For those of you that haven't made the connection yet, David Richards is the husband of Ann Richards, the former Governor of Texas that was defeated by George W. Bush.

Do you smell a bit of vendetta here?

Several weeks or maybe a month ago, I watched 2 newsclips which I believe (speculation only) were designed to generate interest in this story.  The first was an article in Salon  Salon.com News | George W. Bush's missing year  Sept 2, 2004.  I do not have the whole article [refuse to register] , I believe Mrs. Allison is laying a groundwork for the Killian memos.  This may be the article which describes a perceived snub by the Bush family towards the Killians.  If anyone has that article, please post link or quote.

I saw another TV news clip and I am desperately looking for the source.  It states implicitly that the video Ben Barnes made was done at the request of John Kerry.  If anyone remembers the report or has a link to a source on that one, please post here.

Speaking of Kitty Kelly's book:

From THE NATION September 14, 2004,
Why Bush Left Texas
by Russ Baker

(snip)
".............Now-prominent, established Texas figures in the military, arts, business and political worlds, some of them Republicans and Bush supporters, talk about Bush's alleged use of marijuana and cocaine based on what they say they have heard from trusted friends. One middle-aged woman whose general veracity could be confirmed told me that she met Bush in 1968 at Hemisfair 68, a fair in San Antonio, at which he tried to pick her up and offered her a white powder he was inhaling. She was then a teenager; Bush would have just graduated from Yale and have been starting the National Guard then. "He was getting really aggressive with me," she said. "I told him I'd call a policeman, and he laughed, and asked who would believe me." (Although cocaine was not a widespread phenomenon until the 1970s, US authorities were struggling more than a decade earlier to stanch the flow from Latin America; in 1967 border seizures amounted to twenty-six pounds.) ....."

President Bush didn't miss a physical.

The forged memos purport that the President failed to show for an ordered memo in May however, physicals were required to be taken by the birth date month. President Bush's birth date is July 6. He would not have been order to take a physical in May. Even the old secretary let that slip last night. (I read)

When does the Army have physicals?

In the month of the respective soldiers birthday. In the case of GWB, that would be July and not May or August, as the Democrats and the media have been suggesting. The month of May was the beginning of Bush's calendar month for 12 months duty, since that is when he joined the TANG.

The media and the Democrats have been calling them physicals, but in the real military world, they're referred to as medicals.

they won't discover that the DNC was directly involved until, oh . . . maybe next January....

The suggestion of hearings might help smoking out a minor player who will spill the beans

DNC is putting out Burkett's name, because everyone had his name RIGHT AFTER THE 60 MINUTES BROADCAST.

Burkett as the Lone Gunman.

Burkett as the Lone Gunman.

Even Lee Harvey Oswald was part of a mafia. In Burkett's case, it's the Clinton mafia.

The significance of the "unimpeachable source" comment Rather made now takes on real significance

Given his history with mental illness and festering grudge, Burkett certainly does not qualify as an unimpeachable source. But they are doing there best to point us in his direction.

Major Players:

Robin Rather
Dan Rather
Barnes
Burkett
David Van Os
David R. Richards
Ann Richards
DNC/Kerry Campaign
Paul Begala (just becasue he is from Texas)

All dedicated to the destruction (not just defeat) of George W Bush

Do not forget Dan's Rather's disgust when Ann Ricahrd's was defeated. Would Ann or husband be considered unimpeachable?

I think the chain from Burkett to Kerry Campaign to CBS is dead on.

That's why Rather is in such a dither and won't reveal the source. If it was Burkett, he'd dump the chump in a heartbeat.

I bet they are trying to get Burkett to take the fall as the source that GAVE them the docs. But he's got an attorney who's telling him he's in enough trouble already without adding another federal charge (interstate trafficing or somesuch) to the list.

I wish someone would interview some members of the Travis County Democrats. All of this keeps linking back to them.
Ben Barnes current member of its finance council.
Van Os Travis County Precint Chairman from 81-88 and Party Chair 96-98.
Where does Dan Rather go speak? Travis County Democratic fundraiser in 2001 as a favor for his daughter Robin.

"There were some obvious mistakes about TANG in them that you wouldn't think Burkett would make."

That's been bothering me as well. Burkett would have known the proper military terms and designations which eluded the forger.

Also, would Burkett have known about the Houston Longmont address? Mapes, remember, has been working on this for five years.

Another Tenn/Texas connection, but I can't seem to locate it. Maybe a Freeper can locate it and either link or cut and paste it.

On Nightly News/Nightline (whatever it was) September 10 (before the story really broke on Friday), Killian's widow was on with Koppel talking about the memos. Interestingly, Chris Lehane also showed up at that late hour and claimed it was the first time he had seen the memos. We know now that is impossible - the DNC ad was in the can at the earliest July 20. Why would he show up to talk about memos he had never seen unless it was to deflect the direction of blame?

The sad thing about all of this is that it really doesn't matter.

Even if they were to prove the allegations are true, what would it get them?

Bush owned up to his "problematic" behavior during the 2000 election. He pretty much has admitted to having a serious drinking problem during those times; he never denied that he didn't use drugs as well.

It also is very admirable that he came to the realization that he had a serious problem and cleaned himself up. Bush has said that overcoming those problems has made him a better man.

Kerry has never owned up to his youthful indiscretions. If he took a page out of Bush's book, admitted to doing them (with good intentions at heart) and ask for the public to forgive him, they probably would.

The problem with Kerry is Kerry; he's his own worst enemy.
