To the astonishment and dismay of Democratic politicians, John Kerry over the last weekend appeared to have forgotten his opponent for president. He did not seem to realize that he was running against George W. Bush, not Howard Dean. That was an understandable conclusion to be drawn from the Democratic nominee's course over four days.
Last Friday, Sen. Kerry abruptly returned to the safely buried gun control issue by decrying President Bush for permitting the assault weapons ban to end. On Saturday, he addressed the Congressional Black Caucus with a liberal harangue. On Sunday, Kerry rested. On Monday, Kerry was back boosting gun control, scolding Bush for letting the assault weapons ban expire at midnight.
Only two explanations are possible, and neither is reassuring to worried Democrats. Kerry could be making a conscious, though counterproductive, decision to reassure his liberal base. Or, he could be trapped by the calendar of events -- talking gun control because a deadline had been reached and talking civil rights because the Black Caucus invited him. Democratic strategists are particularly concerned by the latter explanation, suggesting a mindless campaign.

LOL, I just loved the comment about the terrorists coming here to buy their assault weapons. What moron could possibly think that any gun control law would stop the terrorists from obtaining weapons?
Yes. How observant of you. Here's the latest, somewhat expanded. (Gotta stop, I could tweak this all day.)
Groups that vote 90% for the dems: reds, greens, UN fans, gays, AARP, academics, bureaucrats, African-Americans, and various OtherGroups (including the ACLU, trial lawyers, Hollywood loonies, druggies, gun grabbers, infanticide supporters, welfare mothers, ditzos, malcontents, rabble-rousers, etc.).
ROFLMAO --
The scene: A cave on the Afghan/Pakistan border
Beeber al-Akhbar: Look, Osama, Acme Gun Sales in the US is taking advantage of the expiration of the AWB - AR-15s are 30% off and you get a free folding stock and flash suppressor.
OBL: Cancel the order with the French, buy all the AR-15s at ACME and see if you can get a discount on shipping.
"suggesting a mindless campaign"
This is a - pardon the pun - no Brainer....
BWWAAAAAAAAAA HAAAAAAAAAAAAAA HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
It's possible that they are all female. Just possible.
I doubt they are concerned. This election is about turnout, turnout, turnout. And the Republicans have (correctly) just ended the "assault" weapons ban, giving Kerry an issue to motivate his base with. The solution is, of course, not to avoid handing Kerry issues to motivate HIS base, but to make sure that President Bush keeps doing things to motivate HIS base: And renewing the assault weapons ban would dispirit his base, so Bush did the right thing, and Kerry is doing the smart thing.
quite very :^D
Very good. I wonder if you can wind-surf a mile in his flip-flops for the full effect...
Wouldn't you just love to see Bush show up at the debates with a sealed envelope containing the over 100 pages of Kerry's unreleased military records and then tell Kerry that he and his campaign were "mistaken" about all of Kerry's records being released. Then, George hands him the SF 180 and a pen so he can correct this oversight and they'll be released if he will only sign.
Talk about trapping rats!!
Hmm..could you be infering that if a campaign manager has to squat to pee, then the campaign is doomed?
Whatever works.
Cool!

I assume your post is directed at post #9 since I was a mere contestant in the riddle. :)
Oh, yes, thanks.
Don't forget about Algore and Donna Brazil.
"''Anyone who's worried that I'm secretly running the Kerry campaign can rest easy. ... As an avid hunter and gun owner myself, I think Kerry's move is a political mistake, because Republicans are now going to try to scare hunters."
But the silliest comment by Novak in this article is when he says
"Some officials of the National Rifle Association have told me that their membership is not entirely happy with the Bush administration, raising the prospect of defections to Kerry."
There's a huge difference between "unhappy," though, and idiotic!
I haven't seen a campaign run this bad since I remember campaigns, clear back to Mondale. He's even worse than Mondale, but I'm not old enough to remember further back than that. We might have to go back to the 1800's to find a worse-ran campaign.
"Sure we're lefties, but we're not supposed to tell the people that."
Or how about an evenly spaced forgery of all Kerry's military records so that Rush could say "even though it's a forgery, the content is correct!"
I think we know Bush is ahead in the polls, but I'm not giving him 14 points like Gallup. I think Kerry is behind, but much closer than 14 points. My fear is that Kerry takes a very sharp turn to appeal to the Dean supporters and to siphon off the Nader vote. If he gets the crazy left all whipped up like Dean did, he'll get massive turnout. That may be his only chance to win this thing, since he's turning off swing voters by the thousands.
