Young Conservatives Proudly Announce Addition of Commonwealths Conservative Leader
PITTSBURGH Young Conservatives of Pennsylvania (YCOP) today announced that the man who helped inspire its conception, Congressman Pat Toomey (R-Lehigh), has accepted the invitation to become Honorary Chairman of its Board of Advisors.
Young Conservatives of Pennsylvania has a very important role to play in the political arena in our Commonwealth to promote conservative policies and candidates among our next generation of civic leaders, Toomey said. I commend the founders of YCOP for their vision, and I look forward to supporting their effort.
Congressman Toomey is my hero, and one of the most inspiring and principled leaders I have ever had the privilege knowing, said State Chairman Chris Lilik. Congressman Toomeys courage to challenge the status quo has inspired an army of young Pennsylvania conservatives to organize for future legislative and political battles. His bravery brought many terrific people together, and built alliances that will last for years to come.
Lilik noted that YCOP is growing like wildfire, with chapters having begun in 30 counties almost immediately upon the groups formulation.
Congressman Pat Toomeys optimistic and positive message inspired the formation of some amazing youth-driven coalitions, grassroots teams, and websites, said YCOP Executive Vice Chair Mark Harris, who formerly headed Students for Toomey. While we are all very sad that his tenure in Congress will be coming to an end, Toomey has done more to energize young conservatives than other any other single figure in Pennsylvania politics.
Without a doubt, Congressman Pat Toomey is the new leader of Pennsylvania conservatives, and we are honored that he recognizes our effort to change Pennsylvania for the better, said Vice Chair of Communications Charlie Mitchell. Toomey might have lost a battle a few months back, but thanks to his great leadership, groups like YCOP will be taking shape to win the war.
Young Conservatives of Pennsylvania is an independent, nonpartisan grassroots organization of Pennsylvanians aged 18-39 dedicated to individual liberty, limited government, and traditional values. Seven state representatives and several other conservative leaders sit on its Board of Advisors. Founded in the summer of 2004, YCOP seeks to organize principled young conservatives and afford them an opportunity to most effectively participate in the political process. The organization plans to publish ratings guides for Pennsylvania legislators, advocate for conservative public policies, and endorse candidates who share its commitment to defending and furthering the principles of the American founding: free markets, a strong national defense, traditional values, and federalism. YCOP believes that there is no better way to educate and train young citizens as to the working of our government than to have them directly involved so when it finds and endorses good conservative candidates, it will deploy an army to carry them across the finish line. The organizations website can be found at http://www.ycop.org/.
So any chance Toomey will run for Governor in '06? It seems like he'd be a strong candidate.
Go YCOP !
You never know...
