Vanity: Killian's ex-secretary came forward last week to corroborate the CBS story
Houston Chronicle ^ | 9/15/04

We have now seen a slew of interviews with Marian Carr Knox, 86, former secretary to Lt. Col. Jerry Killian.

Her story seems to shift with each new interview - and becoming increasingly negative towards Bush.

What's the deal with this lady?

I have an answer, and it is quite simple. It was told to us in the Houston Chronicle today, but it was buried in disjointed paragraphs.

To start out with, Knox contacted the Houston Chronicle herself. They did not find her - she found them. What did she have to tell them last week?

Knox said last week she had not seen the disputed documents obtained by CBS, but was reacting to news reports challenging their authenticity, primarily by countering claims that Killian did not keep copies.

Last week, Knox said she had no firsthand knowledge of Bush's time with the Texas Air National Guard, although she did recall a culture of special treatment for the sons of prominent people, such as Bush and others.

So there you have it. Last week, she came forward to SUPPORT the CBS story against charges that Killian did not keep a personal file.

She disclaimed any personal knowledge of W's time in the Guard - Her only mission last week was to corroborate CBS's claim that Killian kept personal 'CYA" files.

For whatever reason, the Chronicle chose to not run her story last week.

By today, the documents had been completely discredited. So now she comes forward to state the obvious: these documents ARE bogus... BUT HOLD ON... she now suddenly has knowledge about Bush's time in the Guard, and these fake documents really just represent the things that were said in the "real" documents.

Got it now? That's her deal.

Her story has not changed in any way that I can see. She would probably have been telling the truth that she had not seen the documents before (so she couldn't have been able to declare them fakes). Also, hearing "yak-yak" about Bush is not the same as having firsthand knowledge.

Killian's 86-year old ex-secretary came forward last week to corroborate the CBS story.

CBS has now posted a photo of "Knox" on its web site. Call me a skeptic, but are we sure this is Killian's ex-secretary?

Seems you missed this:

She now claims that she remembers typing memos which were very similar to the forged ones.

In one interview she comments that she typed up memos just like these but these are likely just reinterpretations of those memos. In another she says she never typed anything like this but it was told to her verbally. And still she says she had no first hand knowledge of Bush's service beyond scuttlebutt. Sounds like three separate positions to me.

She admits she is for Kerry and doesn't like Bush. Sounds like she is trying to help Kerry without actually lying outright.

"He did have complaints about Bush. Bush missed his physical and went off to Alabama with none of the paperwork, I remember killion talking about that," Knox said. "BUT IT WASN'T IN MEMO FILE." -ABCNEWS.COM

Now, in the houston chronicle she is saying she did type up memos concerning the complaints above.

You mean in the LA Times. In the Houston Chronicle she said last week that she had no firsthand knowledge. This week she says she did not type them, but the information in them is correct.

This is the kind of thing we need to keep documented and pass on to people like Drudge and Rush et all...don't let the MSM run with the story of the kindly old grandma who can remember that Georgie was bad...

I suppose if she remembered typing those memos she WOULD have first-hand knowledge. That IS a change from her earlier position, the two are inconsistent.

Geez, do you think the DNC got to her, and gave her some talking points?

I'm absolutely shocked that her story is now matching up perfectly with the latest democratic/CBS talking points. Shocked I tell you! :)

Probably not. Her story changes with each successive interview. I'd chalk this up to Bush hatred and senility.

This is a cheap attempt on your part to get a laugh.

(It worked but if I have nightmares tonight I am coming after you!)

Well, you really gotta question the memory of an 86-year old woman. You don't know about the mental capacity of the elderly, most of them get kind of vague and forgetful, and they seem really easy to persuade and more likely to accept suggestions not really in their best interests. I know some little old ladies are sharp as a tack, but...

This lady has an axe to grind and she's going to get her 15 minutes of fame. What a liar.

She must be related to Bill Burkett. I wonder if she saw Joe Albaugh there destroying Bush's records too.

Gary Killian mentioned the secretary's name on Hannity's radio program late last week. I was expecting someone would have found her sooner than she did. Unfortunately, maybe the DNC got to her first.

On the bright side, her statement that the memos were forged is more believable since she's so anti-Bush.
