I try to be fair-minded. I try not to reach snap judgments. I try to "see the other side." I try not to overstate. But in this post, I will express opinions that are as blunt and as strongly felt as any I've ever stated in my life. Nothing in this post is sarcasm or snark. This is as serious as a heart attack and it's no longer funny to me, but a national disgrace and a national tragedy.
On Thursday, September 9th, I wrote a post entitled, "Burden now on CBS to authenticate its documents lest it become a co-conspirator in fraud."
In hindsight, I was clearly wrong.
I gave CBS News and Dan Rather the benefit of the doubt the presumption that they did not know the Killian memos were forgeries when they ran their hit piece on "60 Minutes II" on the previous evening. I argued that because of the doubts immediately raised about the authenticity of the memos, CBS ran the risk of becoming a co-conspirator in the fraud perpetrated by whoever forged them.
But Dan Rather and CBS News were co-conspirators from the start. ABC News has revealed that two of the experts whom CBS News consulted before running the broadcast Emily Will from North Carolina and Linda James of Plano, Texas could not and would not authenticate the fraudulent Killian memos, and expressly told CBS that.

It just keeps getting better and better. I'm almost sorry I have to leave on vacation now.
In my mind, each time they report on Iraq and carp on the negative side of the news, intentionally omitting the positive news, they commit a fraud. The same thing applies when they interview Iraqi "civilians" after an American bombing. They print what these "civilians" say as though they are somehow highly credible sources, and they may well be insurgents, terrorists or militant sympathizers.
If we take out 23 terrorists in a bombing and wound a child, they focus the "news" on the wounded child. It's all fraud, and it's all an attempt to influence the outcome of a Presidential race.
Defrauding American's what?
Courage Dan...
It appears that CBS may have given each consultant only one of the memos - a different one to each consultant - with the intention of using only those where they had a positive or non-committal response from the authenticator.

The memo given to Emily Will appears not to have been one of the four memos relied on by Rather on his broadcast. Maybe becasue Will questioned that document.
If this is so, it is very strong evidence that CBS was not merely duped, it was actively complicit.
I had to shorten the first sentence to get within 100 characters so I was fiddling around with wording to make it coherent.
I just forgot about the apostrophe and forgot to delete it.
You remember Bush's words 'You're either with us, or you're against us'? Well, it's US against THEM all right. Only the THEM also includes all the U.S. socialists that voted Clinton in and intend to try to now vote Kerry in. This is WAR, folks! Our very survival depends on the outcome of this election. Don't believe the garbage they spread about Kerry, if elected, being restrained by a Rep controlled Congress and Senate, like Clinton was, cause that isn't guaranteed either. And look at all the damage Clinton managed to do even WITH our control over both houses.
Encourage everyone you know that's a Republican (hehehe) to vote, and also volunteer for poll watching duty, if possible!
You've all got to read Beldar's whole piece on this. As usual, he nails it. This is scathing. It also provides inks to complain to CBS and to Congress.
If CBS/Viacom execs and lawyers are who's behind the Rathergate cover-up (to protect their stock value) we have yet another major corporate scandal.
If they are, it's not working! Viacom stock has been on the skids ever since this fiasco started.
It's the Viacom executives who have the most to lose from Rather's antics, and they are the ones who will cut him loose.
Just read all of beldar's, umm, recommendations. Yikes! Yet another reminder why it's a bad idea to piss off a lawyer. I can certainly see Redstone and the rest of the suits at Viacom doing something very much like this.
CBS has fallen over backwards to defend the indefensible in this issue. They don't have a single "expert" that will stand by them and the content, format, and origin of these memos have been blown out of the water.
Still they resolutely stand by their claims.
Contrast that with the other aspect of the same story.
GW Bush's Official Military record contains documentation showing he completed all the hours necessary to meet his obligations, he has an Honorable Discharge, and there are multiple eye witnesses to his service in Alabama.
But CBS questions the documents......
How hypocrytical is that?
If that doesn't expose CBS' agenda then what does?
Can you say "Media Bias"?
Whoever that "executive puke" from CBS was, that smirked and belittled the folks in pajamas in their living room making thing up --- I'll bet he's sorry he ever made that statment...
Because -- if the folks in pajamas can kick CBS's ass, what the hell does that make of CBS corporate image?
CBS MUST go the way of Authur Andersen --- down the tubes for their OPEN contempt of the public and their corrupt behavior to further THEIR agenda and cover Blather's ass.

CBS, through its affiliates' licenses to use broadcast frequencies that belong to the public, is a repository of the public trust. Its employees, acting within the course and scope of their actual and apparent authority, have deliberately and knowingly abused that trust for the most venal of motives ? motives that are antithetical to the function of the press in a free and democratic society.
You should read Beldar's piece and go to the Hewitt link.
The most damning evidence that CBS is culpable is that they did not disclose OTHER memorandums by Killian which WERE in Bush's OFFICIAL military file that were COMPLIMENTARY to him. Instead they cherry picked fakes.
