CBS News has been had. It's hard to reach any other conclusion about newly discovered documents that CBS and anchor Dan Rather are defending as revealing the truth about George W. Bush's military service.
Despite Rather's statement Monday that the network "believes the documents are authentic," the evidence keeps mounting that they are not. As The Times reported, conservative bloggers detected glaring inconsistencies, such as a Microsoft Word type style. So many other discrepancies have since emerged that it would require a willful suspension of disbelief to take them as merely coincidental.
It doesn't take documents for anyone to realize that . Bush pulled strings to get into the National Guard. And, during the Vietnam draft, nobody went into the National Guard out of passion to defend his country. It also doesn't take new documents to establish that Bush shirked even his National Guard duties when he moved to Alabama and then to Harvard Business School.

Ta Da!
IMO it just doesn't fit....and having family in journalism, am aware how what they write often appears completely different when it finally meets the paper. Soooooo who edited it?
D*mn.
That is amazing.
Hatred, anger, bias, distortions .......
LA Times editor?
The CBS papers represent a willful, illegal attempt to influence an election, and to unlawfully divert a large corporation's assets to the service of the democrats.
CBS intends to escape responsibility by claiming it was merely "had," and that no evidence of its false claims was ever needed.
Just as the war on our foreign enemies may last decades, the war on the lying bastards at CBS will take a long time. I look forward to the day when Viacom/CBS is no longer in the news business, when any corporate or legal preferences or licenses it now enjoys as a media company are revoked, and when its shares are selling at a tiny fraction of today's prices.
Vengeance is a terrible thing...for the recipient. I think I speak for millions of Americans who feel, strongly and deeply, they have been betrayed, exactly and in the same way as America was betrayed by Japan at Pearl Harbor.
To hell with the memos! I'd like to see the goddamned media focus on Bush's CURRENT record. (Which is only a continuation of his past record.)
Right. So CBS News presses ahead knowing that the documents... ...were forgeries? I don't think so. I bet for every one of the experts noted in the WP article, CBS has at least five stating that the documents are real.
There's nothing.. in the memos that is scandalous enough to warrant this level of hype over them being a possible forgery. So, what's all the fuss about?
If the documents are a forgery, only Karl Rove would have put those papers out there. It is consistent with his trickery. In the 2000 campaign, Rove put out braking news, the same day of the first debate, of a tape sent to him of Gore's debate strategy. No one ever saw the tape because it was all a lie placed by Karl Rove to steal news time away from the debate. Rove has played many of the same tricks in the past.
How do we know Karl Rove is not behind this ?
It's up to rove to prove he is not guilty of this Just like it's up to those that believe the docs are forged to prove they are forged.
There is NO evidence to collaborate forgery! That is why CBS is sticking to its story.
That IS a snarky little jewel, isn't it?
"Since that fumbling bumbler at CBS has taken Bush's National Guard service off the table, well, we'll just spew out a gratuitous personal insult. So, there!"
The left is coming unhinged.
Ah, but was it seared...seared!...in your mind?
IOW, it is "seared, seared" in your mind.
To which the LA Times responds...
[S]ome liberals are indulging in the comforting notion that Karl Rove, who is responsible for everything bad that happens everywhere, must be behind the documents.Karl Rove is the Liberals' new Boogeyman. I'm sure that they scare their children into behaving by telling that "Karl Rove will get you!".
Actually paragraphs 4 and 5 could be considered giving the other sides point of view....a technique often encouraged in journalism class...to make the article appear "fair and balanced".
BUT the last paragraph it way out It should be a conclusive paragraph of the entire article if it were true to form....
Paragraph I introduction
Paragrph 2 & 3 one side
Paragraph 4 & 5 otherside
Paragraph 6 Conclusive.
and IMO Six not only doesn't fit the writing style of the paragraphs before it,is not a conclusive paragraph, AND is "off the wall" in it's bias,
More crappy propaganda from the LAT. Yep, no WAY Blather could have known IN ADVANCE that the copies were fakes. /warc
Since there is no attribution, presumably the fine, "unbiased" editor added that.
He must be worrying, that Bush may even carry CA.
Duncan Hunter (R0CA)'s son is a Marine in Iraq right now. But your point remains.
Wait until November 3.
fingers crossed
I would have like to read the conclusive paragraph written by the original writer.....Obviously (s)he didn't share the same political views as the editor.
Exactly. The forgery is so amateurish, and all CBS admits to getting were copies, there are dozens of red flags off the bat.
Rather ran with it, knowing full well, they were fakes, he just underestimated "the guys in pajamas on the internet."
I agree. There is no way CBS News was duped.
IMO, it was deliberate and premeditated mischief.
dem logic is a curious thing
