ABC Evening News continues to chase down its competitor, CBS, on the Killian forgeries. Tonight, they broadcast an expose that alleges that CBS ignored the advice of several document experts who tried to warn them that the Killian memos were faked:
ABC's Brian Ross interviewed the two experts who CBS hired to validate the National Guard documents and reports they ignored concerns they raised prior to the CBS News broadcast. "I did not feel that they wanted to investigate it very deeply," Emily Will told Ross. "I did not authenticate anything and I don't want it to be misunderstood that I did," Linda James told Ross. Ross reports 2 experts told ABC News today that even the most advanced typewriter available in 1972 could not have produced the documents.
Up to now, we assumed that CBS ran with the forgeries not out of malice as much as avarice and ignorance. Now that view may turn out to have been too charitable. Far from failing to properly vet the documents, CBS knowingly moved forward with these forgeries, only stopping long enough to shop for a couple of supporting opinions from people who turned out to be unqualified to authenticate them.

He knew they were fakes before he broadcast them.
CBS has conspired with the DNC to affect the outcome of a Presidential election. I hope ABC and the Washington Post have the guts to prove it.
They should go after Rather the same way they went after Nixon.

Jerry Killian's secretary says she believes the documents are fake but that they express thoughts Killian believed.
Robert, what's your quote? "abcbscnnnbc lies..."?
i'm surprised that abc would report on cbs... it's like cutting off one of the heads of a three-headed sister
Rather's one of them. They'll play it for a little economic advantage, then drop the whole thing. He'll skate.
If they were to really dig in, they'd all be at risk of being exposed. So they won't.
I've been saying it for years: the media lie. This is just one more bit of evidence.
Whaddya say we call up those boys & have 'em do a remake w/some new lyrics?
Don't Call Us, We'll Call You Revisited
Long distance direct'ry assistance area code 212 "Say hey CBS? this is mista big media blues" Dan said "Hello" and put me on hold To say the least the cat was cold He said, "Don't call us Freeper, we'll call you."
"I said "you got my freeper blog number?" He said "Yeah I got it when you exposed my blunder All the more reason for Don't call us, we'll call you Don't call us, we'll call you."
"Dan, we got your number from a friend of a friend who said he used to work with you Remember the anchor night creatures from the Media Days of 1492?" "Yeah," I said, "could you relate your investigative quarter track tape? "You know now you've been exposed, y'all performin' in the nude" He said, "uh huh don't call us Freeper we'll call you."
"Listen kid you've brought our agenda to a crawl You ain't bad but we've heard it all before So we're stickin' to our guns"
Any way we cut a bloggers' hit and we toured the big media a bit with an expose Dan said he'd Rather not use. And now he calls and begs and crawls It's corporate media deja vu We got credibility points pouncin' on Viacom's lousy joint and all the glitter we can use Dan the man so uh huh "Don't call us, now we'll call you!"
"Listen, pajama wannabe, you paid for the call You ain't bad but I've heard it all on CBS before No, Don't call us, we'll call you."
"Ross also reported that Lt. Col. Jerry Killian's secretary says she believes the documents are fake but that they express thoughts Killian believed."
Even though ABC acknowledged the possibility of forgery, they still had to put in the above dig. They also reminded the viewers that George Bush still had to answer to National Guard issues....
The rest of the Nightly News was pretty much a slam on Bush regarding Iraq, Hurrican Ivan, Medical Care, etc......
ABC IS FINALLY DOING SOMETHING RIGHT- THEY ARE TRASHING CBS
FINALLY SOMEONE ELSE REALIZES THAT FORGERY PRESENTED BY A MAJOR NEWSCASTER IS IN ITSELF NEWS
And forgery to change the outcome of a Presidential Election. It does not get any bigger than this.
Reader Martin Vaala asked an interesting question; here are his query and my answer:
Powerline:Which kind of puts CBS's stonewalling into perspective.
Since you're lawyers, I have a, perhaps trivial, side issue question about the memos. What admissibility hurdles would you have to overcome to get copies of documents entered as evidence?
Martin Vaala
Martin:
Good question. Based on what CBS has released so far, they're not even in the ballpark. You'd have to authenticate them and overcome any hearsay obstacles contained within them. CBS hasn't attempted to do any of this.
CBS is trying to use these forgeries to influence a Presidential election, but they could never get them into evidence in a $10,000 civil case.

Ouch...!
ping
I hope ABC and the Washington Post have the guts to prove it.
Don't count on them, they are on the same side as cbs!
2000 all over again! Its just happening before the actual election this time. Who'd've thought the SCOTUS would've been forced to get involved in the last one. Just proves that the LEFT party will do ANYTHING to get back into power, security of the country be damned.
For some reason, ABC seems to be the most reasonable of the networks left. Don't they employ John Stossel too?
ABCBSNBC are still competitors, you must realize. If ABC News, which has been absolutely sucking, can discredit CBS and take some of its viewers, they'll be more than happy to do so, while also appearing to be true journalists, reporting on another reporter's lies.
