And some wonder why way too many Americans have come to hate the media!
Case in point, the current flap over the authenticity of documents that purport to provide evidence of an effort to ``sugarcoat'' the Air National Guard records of a young George W. Bush. CBS News is sticking to its story even in the wake of revelations in the Dallas Morning News that the guy who reportedly authenticated the documents for CBS now no longer believes they're for real. Questions have also been raised about whether the papers were typed or are the product of a modern-day computer - thus making it among the bigger hoaxes in American political history.
All of this goes more to the issue of media credibility than it does to the political futures of either President Bush [related, bio] or Sen. John Kerry [related, bio]. The readiness of CBS to jump into the fray with possibly bogus documents, the downplaying of questions of their authenticity (the Sunday Globe ran with a story on page 19) all give rise to a level of public cynicism that does the candidates and political process a grave disservice.
Real voters concerned about terrorism and the economy, about health care and jobs and taxes, know how trivial all of this is. Too bad the networks and ``Big Media'' don't understand that.
Mixed message. The Globe has been on Rather's bandwagon rather recently.
Pot calling the kettle!
But it is true.
They fell in love with the story and love is blind....CBS has lost all credibility by clinging to its love child.
The Boston Globe is an arm of the Kerry campaign. They are
beyond bias and into outright partisanship.
READ THE SOURCE. This is the Boston Herald not the Boston Globe. Conflating these two is like conflating the NYTimes and the NYPost!
The editorial was by the Boston Herald staff, trashing the Boston Globe. (I at first thought the same as you, and could easily be confusing your response as well.. *sigh*)
Stop using bias to describe the mainstream media, they are not biased...they are PARTISAN. Read S. Kurtz's thoughts on this in National Review Online.......bias is one thing, out and out partisanship is another.
The Boston Herald is the other Boston newspaper and unlike the Globe it is a good one.
This is from the Boston Herald.
CBS and Dan Rather represent the Democrat party and as such they are partisans. Carville and Begala are employed by CNN and are helping the Kerry campaign. They are partisans.
Dan Rather is behaving completely like a politician not a reporter. He is stonewalling and refusing to investigate the authenticity of his memos, "not even considered". He is violating all the journalistic hallmarks of integrity and loyalty to getting at the truth. Rather is partisan.
I woke up this morning to find out that someone dressed like Batman had scaled a building in the UK, and the news photo made it look as if the poor fellow were going to jump before the bobby could stop him... my first thought was "Don't jump, Dan!"
Note to old media and their RAT pals....." we shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender" Winston Churchill wouldnt mind if we borrowed part of his speech for a good cause.
Dishonesty and fraud are never "trivial." It is so like those who are caught to want to change the subject. It is so sad that one of the sturdy foundations of our free society, our elite media no longer functions..I guess it only worked as long as men/women were actually seeking the truth. When the spoiled and protected affluent took over, integrity "flew out the window."
