Sounds like Marcel Matley is finished as an expert.

And as a consequence he will be the first to file a defamations suit against CBS.

In the end, CBS is screwing around with the sitting PRESIDENT. That's why this is so huge.

This is just as bad as "Watergate" but this time - it's MSM that's engaged in felonies, doc fraud.

Lawsuits are surely coming - esp from the K. family.

Dan remember - "the COVER UP IS WORSE THAN THE CRIME."

"I am glad CBS is sticking to their guns. This story would be dead otherwise."

Exactly. It'w what I predicted back on 8/31 ("In a Box," http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1204056/posts): The media took over Kerry's campaign when they thought Kerry could not possibly win it on his own. But in the process, their arrogance led them to constantly revive VIETNAM, which only hurts Kerry. People have made up their minds about the Vietnam connection, and decided that while maybe they don't entirely believe the Swifties, they cast enough doubt that the public can no longer use the "Vietnam-as-proxy-for-what-I'd-do-in-WOT" argument. Kerry is toast. French toast.

"CBS officials said that Staudt was a "mythic figure" in the Guard who exercised influence from behind the scenes even after his retirement. "

"And they expect to get away with such inane explanations..."

and they expect to get away with sliming a wide range of retired officers and family members in order to reach the ultimate slime job of all: Our President.

at least now they are calling him a "mythical figure" - last week it was "bully" . . . sheesh

FREEPHELP NEEDED!!!! Does anyone have suggestions on the best wrap-up piece and timeline of this whole thing??

My folks are avid 60 minutes watchers, and I need a concise, blog-referencing email link where they can quickly see the depths of Dan's duplicity and crack his credibility with them.

It's not just that CBS lied, but that they didn't even try to conceal it, and that most people (except the Deaniacs) know it. That is an important distinction. For the first time, i think, people are starting to say, "Hey, those guys are liars! What else do they lie about?"

The whole "Bush Lied" stategy has now blown up in their faces between this and the Swifties---Dems and Media Types LIE!

Has Harkins of Iowa spewed forth anything lately or is he still saying that the docs are incidental and it's the story that counts.

Bill Glennon, an information technology consultant.

If this guy is an information technology consultant, then the LP Presidential candidate is a professor of Constitutional Law.

Hey wait, I work in IT and have for 20 years. Have experience with the technologies back to the mid 70's. I am available for interviews and can give my solicited opinions. I was taught to type on the new IBM electrics back in the mid 70's.

I say the documents are FRAUDS.

There, I have no less, and actually more qualifications as this paid DNC/CBS hack. Where can I get quoted in the MSM?

The lead expert retained by CBS News to examine disputed memos from President Bush's former squadron commander in the National Guard said yesterday that he examined only the late officer's signature and made no attempt to authenticate the documents themselves. "There's no way that I, as a document expert, can authenticate them," Marcel Matley said in a telephone interview from San Francisco. The main reason, he said, is that they are "copies" that are "far removed" from the originals.

This is what Marcel Matley said about authenticating signatures from photocopies in "Using and Cross-Examining Handwriting Experts" by Marcel Matley:

The Problem with Copies .................. Do not passively accept a copy as the sole basis of a case. Every copy, intentionally or unintentionally, is in some way false to the original................... In fact, modern copiers and computer printers are so good that they permit easy fabrication of quality forgeries. From a copy, the document examiner cannot authenticate the unseen original but may well be able to determine that the unseen original is false. Further, a definite finding of authenticity for a signature is not possible from a photocopy, while a definite finding of falsity is possible.

And this is the key issue, CBS has serious ethical if not legal exposure. Once they admit these docs are fake, then they need to reveal the source and they cannot do this. The likely reason is the source is the DNC/Kerry Camp.

So someone will be the "fall guy", likley Rather and Mary Mapes, but they will have their lawyers lined up and CBS and the "fall guys" will claim the 5th.

Our lawyers demand we don't talk due to potential legal exposure

Hence we will never know where they came from and the issue will fade into obscurity. We will get Rather and CBS will be discredited, but the big fish, the DNC/Kerry will skate.

I think so. The online CBS article about the docs quoted heavily from those who thought the docs were forgeries, thereby distancing themselves from Rather. Dan is out on a limb at CBS and they are sawing it off IMHO. Also, the WaPo article was devastating for him.

And, I noticed in the Drudge article from CBS news last night 'Questions Linger Over Bush Memos' that there was an actual quote from Col. Udell, of the TANG that says: ""I completely am disgusted with this (report) I saw on 60 Minutes,"' Udell said. "That's not true. I was there. I knew Jerry Killian. I went to Vietnam with Jerry Killian in 1968." " That is the first instance of CBS deviating from the Rather insistance that the Docs are real. Could CBS be trying to distance themselves from Rather?

Nah, that's not the first time the articles on CBS's website have had conflicting evidence to Rather's story. In fact, Friday's story on their website mentioned the comments from Killian's family. Yet Dan Rather claimed on the air that there was no evidence showing the memos are fake, when even cbsnews.com mentioned that there were. Those articles on the CBS website contain info from AP, which is not spouting the Dan Rather party line.

Check this post I did on SEPTEMBER 11. (The Washington Post just confirmed my suspicions TODAY.)

"I also saw RATHER'S RESPONSE. He found a "handwriting analyst to check the signature". Hello... A signature can be the same, and it can be COPIED AND PASTED onto a FAKE DOCUMENT. ALL YOU NEED IS A BOTTLE OF WHITE-OUT AND SOME SCISSORS, DAN. Rather thinks that we're going to buy his expert's testimony????? RAOFLMAO"
