Scarborough (MSNBC)-Fineman (Newsweek), Zelnick (ABC) critical of CBS/Rather
MSNBC-Scarborough Country | 9/13/2004 | self

Fineman and Zelnick were highly critical of Rather's arrogant declaration to "Prove Us Wrong".

They said that is not a proper journalistic standard. Onus is on CBS to use authentic documents: originals.

They both encouraged Rather and CBS to reconsider their untenable position.

The criticism was significant, and it was from mainstream news personalities who were not wearing pajamas.

This story has legs, even in the MSM.

Rather will be doing some more backpedalling soon, I predict.

It was quite refreshing to realize this isn't an issue simply on the internet.

>>>Very refreshing after O'Reilly's pitiful show on this issue on Fox tonight ("I've read everything and don't know what to make of it." Bill is not the brightest bulb in the chandelier).<<<

O'Reilly is a fraud and most people have known it for a long time.

Folks they are starting to recognize the power of the Internet.

As Matt drudge says "every citizen is a reporter" To go a step farther, the media is just beginning to realize that the Internet provides a vast wealth of expertise in all fields.

Glad to hear it. I didn't like the tone of the current debate, where the onus was on us to prove it would have been physically impossible to write those memos in the 1970s.

There are a few outlets and commentators in the MSM who aren't swallowing Dan Rather's Kool Aid - these guys you mention here and the Compost come to mind. OTOH, Time, the AP, and USA Today have gone completely into the tank for Dan. I think a lot of the outlets are hedging their bets right now, looking to see where the New York Times will eventually land. The Slimes hasn't committed itself yet, but will be forced to soon, and the others all look to it as the Bible.

I still see 'rat'ther as responsible for getting GHWB elected. I remember the alleged 'wimp factor' trailing the campaign until Bush kicked his a$$ in a televised interview

thanks dan!

looks like he's at it again for GWB

I was gratified to hear them say that credibility is their stock-in-trade. I wish CBS would get a clue.

Free Republic Rocks.

For the first time in 40 years the liberal media is being taken to task in a big way, and it's websites like Free Republic who have been leading the way.

The best part is.... It's not an editor here at FR or some publication, it's the members who are confronting the liberal corruption in the NEWS.

When president Bush visited the Troops in Baghdad on Thanksgiving Day... We knew it first. When Saddam was captured it was the same thing. It goes on and on and on, and the fact is the "Old Media" is on its death bed

Could it be that the original source of the forged memos is Rather's daughter? This would explain Rather's willingness to risk taking CBS and the rest of Old Media down with him.

Would that explain Rather's astounded look when told about the type style not being available in 1972?

Would that explain CBS's apparent lack of knowledge of where Rather got the memos?

Inquiring minds want to know and we now trust the National Inquirer more than CBS.

Who can counter the carefully handpicked "experts" foisted on the public by the MSM.

Mikey Savage was saying today that O'Really's ratings are in the tank ... anyone know if it's true. If so ... it couldn't happen to a nicer clymer

Even Fineman said he has blogged in his pajamas

Yeah, Freepers (and Fineman) may blog in pajamas, but at least we're not an EMPTY SUIT like Dan Blather.

You would think that after covering seven or eight presidential administrations--particularly Nixon and Clinton--Dan Rather and CBS would know that the cover-up always generates more attention and damage than the original crime.

Rather and CBS have become the news--news that is rapidly eclipsing any ancient history on Bush's air guard career.</p>

Now theres a sobering thought, the "final word" from the NY Slimes. What a blow to truth that would be.

What's good is that whatever Dan Rather does now, this story has been discredited anyway. I wonder if it even matters whether or not he back-pedals now, because even his mainstream colleagues are saying that his tactics are questionable, even though they're tip-toeing around his motives.

No originals will be found. That would only further prove they are forgeries.

Why would a file memo be copied for a dozen generations anyway? It isn't as if it was distributed anywhere other than a single file box. There is only one reason. To mask the bogus source.

O'Rielly and John Kerry have a lot in common...

They both stand for NOTHING.

Unlike O'Reilly and John Kerry, President Bush is willing to stand up for what he believes, and to hell with the critics

People are getting tired of Oreilly playing both sides. Does he really not know what to think, every news gathering outlet in the country (besides CBS) has said that these documents are bogus. Give me a break. Joe's show is great tonight, I love that he spent 45 min. on this subject.
