Report from Chappaqua: No downside for Hillary if she replaces Kerry on the ticket..
one man's opinion

Posted on 09/13/2004 12:27:52 PM PDT by ken5050

As many of you know, I have over the past four years occasionally chronicled the Clintons, from the perspective of what one hears and observes from Beautiful Downtown Chappaqua. Many Freepers have told me how much they enjoy my commentaries. I've ignored the rumors, the innuendos, the "tin-foil hat" theories. Indeed, there are many more very interesting details that I have deliberately chosen NOT to share with all of you. What I'm going to discuss now is admitted speculation on my part, but based upon a few conversations I've had in the last few days..and you'll have to trust my instincts on my sources..OK..here goes..

TOPICS: Politics/Elections
KEYWORDS: badseed; clinton; conspiringclintons; hillary; hitlery; rodham; stophillary; traitor

I may be stupid, but I just don't see hillary winning--whatever scenerio is set up. Too many people HATE her.

Sure it is. A loss damages her in 2008, she would have to fight other Democrats for the election and alot of Democrats would be mad at what they would see as a manipulation. Don't think she is going to run this time, but I think we all agree that the Clinton's have positioned themselves that this is a possible option.

This is not a flame, just a disagreement. The problem with your assessment is, I believe, an underestimation of Hillary. She may be stupid but she ain't dumb. She sat out this election because she estimated, correctly, Bush was going to be extremely difficult to defeat. She only gets one shot at this and she has to time it perfectly. The problem with your analysis is the unknowns. Hillary has no way of predicting what Kerry dropping out of the race does to the voters. It could backfire horribly, with a lot of Kerry backers feeling they have been shafted, and the rank and file demoralized and defeated. Ads prepared at great expense for Kerry have to be thrown out. She would suddenly have to start addressing issues she is probably quite unfamiliar with like the military, her position on Iraq, etc. It's all very iffy. However, in 2008 there appear to be no unbeatable challengers in the Republican wings. She will have four years to prepare, raise money, and line up her ducks.

By the way, she will run for Senate in 06. She can say anything she wants about a run in 08, since it won't matter when she actually runs. It's never hurt a politician to do that . They just make it look like the groundswell demanding they run is too overwhelming to deny.

she will run in 2008. and she will be immune to any scandal component of a campaign against her, because that has already been played out. Rose Law firm 527 ads won't cut it in 2008.

she could win. the most nationally visible republicans are disliked by the conservative base (Rudy, etc). if we split up over that, or if the Dems can fund some third party candidate to peel off conservative votes, she can win.

... it is already past the deadline to be on the ballot ...

Not being flippant, but so what if her name is on the ballot or not?

Being named on the ballot is not a prerequisite to having an elector cast his/her ballot for you in December. That is a fact, contingent only on the named candidate's unavailability.

"Hillary will run in 2008 and win, she will be president for 8 years,"

Haha!! Wrooong. Sorry, America does NOT want the Clintons back in the WH. Bill Clinton could NOT win in a presidential race today-- with alternative media (Drudge, Fox, Blogs)-- he only recieved 43% of the vote in an era when we weren't powerful or influential. Just think, in another 2-3 years how much more powerful we will be.

When Hillary runs we can dredge up Waco, Chinagate, Filegate, Whitewater, Vincent Foster, Ron Brown, TWA Flight 800, etc. This woman is more corrupt than her husband.

I partially disagree...

Hillary is too smart to get on the demonrat ship that is sinking this fast. IMHO entering at this stage will not change the outcome very much -- those who would switch over to her from Bush are probably equalized by those who feel they have been disenfranchised from voting their choice of JF'nKerry. Yet another "trick" by the hate Bush crowd would not go down well with any remaining Demonrat who actually believes in the US electoral process...

Once you lose ONCE, it just becomes that easier to lose again -- she will be marked as, well, a LOSER, and in 2008 I suspect folks will be sick and tired of Clinton and Hitlery anyway and want something new -- the Demonratic party as we know it may well go up in flames this election...

On the other hand

if Hitlery senses that the world of 2008 is so different that all the cards she holds (a lapdog MSM, Hollywood, Soros, the FBI files) become useless, she may run because by 2008 she is wouldn't get very far at all...

in order for hillary to run in 1004 kerry has to drop out. short of assasination (in which Edwards becomes thae candidate) there is no way he'd do that.

Memogate. Prostate flare-up. Either reason would be well understtod by the public, and would easily justify a late switch.

Edwards does not become the Pres candidate automatically, if Kerry drops out. The party chooses its candidates, not the law. The succession law only plays after the electors cast ballots, and there is a president-elect (See 3 USC 1)

I don't think the system could accomodate, or the people tolerate, a replacement candidate scenario.

Two words: Torricelli/Lautenberg.

Agreed 100% - Kerry would have to be physically incapacitated in some way for this to be realistic IMHO.

You are scaring the crap out of me, but a nicely-done summary of the situation.

Just two things though:

1. Hillary! on the ticket and Hillary! on yard signs and bumper stickers will bring every single republican out from the weeds, the woods, the outhouses, from under every rock in the country. I believe there are enough Clinton haters to stem the tide of a Hillary! run.

2. I trust that the republican machine already has a plan, with ammo, to run against Hillary!, whenever she decides to make her move. I disagree on your premise that the pubbies wouldn't have time to shoot her down. I believe they are loaded for bear, especially THAT bear.

For example, Friday Nebraska certified its ballot. Many other states have done the same. Every state has different election laws ...

But all of them have an election process where the voter chooses an elector. Study the presidental election laws some more.

I agree with that. No matter whether or not she can substitute, the point is moot if the GOP has the majority of electors.

Your speculations could be used to create a script for a movie, but serve as no rational basis in this political season.
