Faith in Jesus Christ, who is «the way, the truth, and the life»(Jn 14:6), calls Christians to exert a greater effort in building a culture which, inspired by the Gospel, will reclaim the values and contents of the Catholic Tradition.
The Participation of Catholics in Political Life

In the Catholic tradition, responsible citizenship is a virtue; participation in the political process is a moral obligation.

I passed that site on to my Catholic family - but most of it applies to my church affiliation also - except the connections with the Vatican. Thanks!

I'm thinking that he may want to find an actual Roman Catholic to write his so-called Catholic-based policy statements. Where does he come up with these rationales--Rolling Stone?

THE FIVE NON-NEGOTIABLE ISSUES

These five current issues concern actions that are intrinsically evil and must never be promoted by the law. Intrinsically evil actions are those which fundamentally conflict with the moral law and can never be deliberately performed under any circumstances. It is a serious sin to deliberately endorse or promote any of these actions, and no candidate who really wants to advance the common good will support any action contrary to the non-negotiable principles involved in these issues.

1. Abortion

Hi, This is my first post here.

As a Catholic, however, I cannot see how they can remain Catholic and vote for John Kerry, with his pro-abortion, pro-gay stance. However, many in the church just want a Catholic in offiice. The only other one was JFK, and we know what his moral stance was like.

catholicsagainstkerry.com needs your help. We are fighting Kerry on the radio in Pennslyvania. Help us, please.

Well, to be fair, we know NOW... but back then, he was just a handsome, Catholic Senator. And a 'war hero' to boot.

Remember, this was a dem, so even in '60 you're going to get a bit of tip in his favor. Less obvious than in our day, but doubtless still present. Moreover, there was a bit of the 'old boys' network going on. A little wink-wink, nudge-nudge; probably most of the reporters were JEALOUS of his, ahem, actions.

More importantly, what was the major 'Catholic' issue? That he'd allow the Pope to run the country. Abortion was still illegal, euthanasia was still disgusting, embryonic stem cell research and cloning were not yet flickers in Lucifer's eye, and gay marriage? The very concept would have been laughed out of any court in the land.

Fast forward 40 years.

Over these decades, new issues have come to the fore. Kerry and other nominally catholic politicians (yes, even several republicans) have had to make a choice of their own: side with the Church, or side with the Secularists.

They've chosen. And now, the chips are going to fall where they may, as always. If there's any justice, they'll pay for their choices, with interest. Many of them sold their souls for temporal power. How ironic that they should lose even that, as a direct result of their bargain.

And, of course, welcome to Free Republic!
