Anti-Bush Ads Geared to Young Blacks Use 'Sharper Message' ($5 million ad buy, race-baiting)
Wash Post | 9/13/04 | Howard Kurtz

A liberal group backing John F. Kerry is accusing President Bush of opposing civil rights and trying to suppress black voter turnout in a multimillion-dollar ad campaign targeted at young African Americans.

The Media Fund, a "527" independent group that has poured $43 million into anti-Bush advertising, plans to air the new television and radio spots in major urban markets in swing states. (The "527" reference is to the section of the tax code that governs such organizations.)

"It's a sharper message, an edgier message," fund spokesman Jim Jordan said. "We're looking for voters who haven't been particularly motivated by our party's message previously."

Fuse, a minority firm in St. Louis, is handling the ads.

In an e-mail to reporters this morning, Jim "You've Got Mail" Jordan announced that the Media Fund will "will unveil a multi-million dollar sustained national effort" today targeting "African Americans of voting age across the nation and specifically in battleground states of Florida, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Ohio, Nevada, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin." The campaign will consist of radio, television, and Internet ads.

Media Fund spokesgal Sarah Leonard tells The Note that it's a $5 million buy that will last several weeks.

What do you mean, like they will be limited to only voting once?

Thanks for stating this so clearly, Democrats, I finally understand now. I had heard you guys complaining about Republicans "suppressing the black vote", and I couldn't figure out what they were talking about.

But now it's pretty clear that campaining to young black people to get them to vote Republican is what you meant. Suppressing the black DEMOCRATIC vote by luring all those hip-hoppers off the plantation and out into the bright, clear sunlight of full citizenship.

Sneaky rascals, them Republicans.... ;)

I suppose it will have a FREE slimeball rapper CD waiting for them once they exit the polls and show their little "I voted" sticker?

Yawwwwwwnnn. How ingenious.

Racism: using race to promote an ideology, politcal agenda, or personal hatred. On all three counts this is a disgraceful example of racism i by the Democrat enlightened.

did Sarah mention that her cut of the 5 million AD buy was 10% and that she loves working for these non profit 527 companies?

Can someone please explain how these groups just "pop" with $43 million in their coffers. The swiftees were being tied to Republicans, but I'm willing to guess this group just happened to know a lot of people who donated. {SARCASM}

They're using ad buys? They haven't even done the footwork to register and mobilize new Democratic voters. If they want to waste their money, that's their privilege. See, no one is excited about John Kerry.

For all those interested, Hannity has been playing this ad for the last couple days. It is one of the most disgusting race-baiting ads I've ever heard...equaling the vitriol from the 1998 Missouri ads about "black churches burning." Sean is interviewing these Mediafund people within the hour.
