Police arrest an Indianapolis woman after she openly told them three children were riding in the trunk of her car.
It started with a 9-1-1 call from 21st and Post Road around 1:30 Saturday afternoon. The caller said she'd just seen a woman put three small children in the trunk of a car and close it.
The driver went south on Post Road and police stopped her at 10th and Post. Inside,45-year-old Linda Crenshaw and six children. Two of the children were in the front seat, four others in the back seat
The officer asks her is she has kids in the trunk of her car and she said she did.
Two boys and a girl, ages six, seven and eight were quickly removed.
"She was on the way to take them to a movie or take them to miniature golf and she wanted to do it in one trip instead of two," said Marion County Sheriff's Deputy Lt. JIm Cleek.
Police say what was intended as a day of fun could have ended far differently.
"It was an extremely dangerous situation for all the kids, including the ones unrestrained in the passenger compartment. If you get in an accident it would have been catastrophic," said Cleek.
Linda Crenshaw faces charges of operating a motorized vehicle while intoxicated , three counts of child neglect and six other tickets because none of the kids, who ranged in age from 12-to-4, had seat belts or were in booster seats.
Come on, kids! Get in the trunk.
WHYIZZZIT.......stories like this no longer surprise me?
I had a funny feeling while reading this that there was going to be booze in this story somewhere.
Mommy ... are we there yet?
I smell new trunk regulations.
So...it's illegal to do that?
I guess I'll have to start paying for the kids when we go to the Drive In movies in Sunrise.
The one saving grace to this whole tragedy is that the woman was not smoking.
If you have proof that you are traveling to a Drive-in movie, it should be legal to carry passengers in the trunk.
I have some funny photos from Afghanistan with whole families in the trunk of the car. Anyway to get them posted?
See, no minivan needed!
You GOTTA see this.
Maybe she was trying the sneak them in to the drive-in theater.
Busted for having trunk passengers.
The results of OPPRESSIVE LAWS that put useless demands on a free people.
How did we all live up through the 1990's without these unconstitutional laws?
STUPID IGNORANT SHEEPLE!
Well, that's silly. I can see how it'd save you money on a drive-in movie, but there's really no benefit for miniature golf.
no no.... tape antlers to their heads, hang em over the side of the hood....it works.
Doogle
I may have to evacuate due to Hurricane Ivan. I was planning on putting 4 year old TWIN BOYS in my trunk. It's either that or stuff a sock in their mouths. If a jury of my peers could ride along with me, they would never convict me.
Gosh, one more reason I wish we'd had the internet when my kids were little--timesaving tips for Mom. ;-D
This is just proof that cops exist to just ruin the fun of parents.
