AU's Campus Republicans Fence Michelle Malkin Out
By Richard Leiby Sunday, September 12, 2004; Page D03
Flame-throwing syndicated columnist Michelle Malkin, whose latest book supports the internment of Japanese Americans during World War II, was all set to appear at American University tomorrow as the year's kickoff speaker for the College Republicans. But her topic proved too hot for them to handle.
Abruptly canceling her speech last week, Mike Inganamort, president of the campus Republicans, told Malkin in an e-mail: "Our first priority for the next two months is ensuring President Bush be re-elected. Staff members for the Bush campaign have frowned on us for having an event centered on the internment of Japanese Americans." He also cited possible protests over "an issue we frankly cannot defend at our heart of hearts."

heck, I'd buy tickets just to hear her read the phone book.
I have always been taught what a horrible thing the interrment of the Japanese was. Fortunatly I am old enough that I was also taught what a great victory WW2 was for us and the world.
Now here is what I have always wondered. Did the interment prevent any hostile actions on US soil?
Given the situation it seem like a reasonable policy to me.
"Flame-thrower"...that's rich, lol. I wonder if the Washington comPost would ever apply this label to Molly Ivins, Kathleen Dowd, or Kitty Kelly?
US history is not required at AU?
Scarred me, thought for a moment they meant Auburn University. It seems very dumb for a Republican group to disinvite Michelle. And then say they were doing it for Bush. Give me a break.
A simple translation is "Highly Intelligent, Rational and Beautiful woman".
These are always conservatives because there are no "Highly Intelligent, Rational and Beautiful" liberal women.
Rules, please
I could be wrong.....
I don't know how any reasonable person could conclude otherwise. I heard her lecture and read her book, and I think if others did before going off on her, they would be surprised at the things they'd learn.
Malkin once found the idea of internment abhorrent herself, but study of the issue (after being urged by WWII veterans to look beyond what we've all been taught, and reading about the MAGIC intercepts) changed her mind. It is sad that people are so PC on this that they can't be open-minded enough to even hear her out.
She's hot, but I wouldn't call her a flame thrower either. Quite the opposite. Every time I've seen her she's cool and reasoned.
AU should have just let her give the speech. I think they didn't because they were afraid some protestors might have demonstrated a literal interpretation of what a flame thrower is.
Perhaps, it was the right decision.
She's been a favorite of mine ever since she was the first one to speak out (and perhaps the most consistent) right after 9/11 about how dangerous illegal immigration is to us and how our elected officials pander to it.
That is from their web site "About Page" Seems to me they are getting wobbly
There were Japanese warriors trying to make landings, and some shooting occurred on the West Coast, which I believe is where all the Japanese who were interned came from. Also, my in-laws who lived in an Oregon farming community tell of some Japanese who did NOT get there farms back, and some who DID get there farms back.....AND, furthermore, those in the internment camps came back after the war, my husband's Uncle did NOT....he died from injuries in a plane over Germany. FWIW.
Having lived in Washington and been active in Republican politics at the time I distinctly remember a scandal back during the 1992 campaign where the AU College Republicans endorsed Perot ...
Go here, if you like, and read about the attack in the Aleutians and at Dutch Harbor, Alaska during WWII.....there were many reasons to fear problems on the west coast.....http://www.geocities.com/tempelhof.geo/11AFHIST.html
You mean Susan Estrich isn't highly intelligent, rational, or beautiful? They could have booked her on the same ticket for a comparison...That would be fair and balanced.
Hahahahahah.
Congratulations, then, sonny.
You just demonstrated, for all the world to see, that this little girl is more of a man than you'll ever be.
She is a very brave woman. No doubt about it.
