The Decatur Daily (Alabama) published an interview this morning with former Air Force Sgt. James Copeland, who insists that he saw George W. Bush doing his required drills at Dannelly Air National Guard Base in Montgomery, AL during the period CBS and Democrats claim he was AWOL:
Copeland, who lives in Hartselle, retired from the Air Force on Jan. 31, 1980. He was the disbursement accounting supervisor, a full-time position, for Dannelly Air National Guard Base in Montgomery from Oct. 28, 1971, to Oct. 27, 1975. His office was less than 100 yards from the hangar where Bush performed drills.
Rumors say Bush went AWOL while assisting Winton "Red" Blount in an unsuccessful campaign for U.S. Senate focus on 1972 and 1973.
Copeland, 65, remembers meeting Bush on two occasions. He does not remember the precise dates. On one occasion, Copeland said, Bush and Lt. Col. John "Bill" Calhoun came to Copeland's office with a question about Bush's pay. Copeland is not sure, but he believes the question had to do with where to mail Bush's checks.
Copeland also backs up previous AANG witness Lt. Col. John Calhoun, who earlier this year verified Bush's service in Alabama:
Copeland stressed that Calhoun's account of Bush's service in Montgomery would be accurate because Calhoun was in a position to work with Bush during every drill. Calhoun told The Associated Press last week that he saw Bush every drill time, which was one weekend each month.
Not only was Calhoun in a position to know of Bush's service, Copeland said, but Calhoun "was an ethical and honest officer."
And the Decatur Daily, in a demonstration of actual investigative journalism that the spoiled brats at CBS could only envy, actually looked around for witnesses at the Winton Blount campaign to see if Bush missed any campaign events because of his National Guard duties. Bingo!
Joe Holcombe, 71, of Joppa worked with Bush on the Blount campaign. He told THE DAILY last week that he remembers Bush missing at least one campaign meeting because of his National Guard drills.
Perhaps when the story of the 2004 campaign is written for history, the only one noted as the loser will be the candidate who didn't get into the White House. However, those of us who lived through it will recall that the biggest losers of all were the mainstream media outlets who rabidly pursued their partisan agendas, chasing after unsourced myths and promoting obvious forgeries to support their agenda, while ignoring over 250 combat veterans who went on record and supplied evidence regarding the malfeasance of their preferred candidate.
I'd call it Bonfire of the Vanities is the name hadn't already been taken. Perhaps we'll just call it The Year Of The Fallen Masks. (Hat tip: Amelia.)
Another nail in the Democrats' coffin.
FYI, I didn't author the piece. The source links to the piece at Captain's Quarters.
I can give you an example of two. Kerry was AWOL on both votes for extended unemployment benefits, late '03 and early '04. This bill has been passed like clockwork for several years (renewed every 6 months), with President Bush signing off on it everytime. Unemployment is a fact of life, it is not a partisan issue.
The first time it went down by two votes. Kerry AND Edwards were both AWOL from their jobs in the Senate. The second time, it went down by one vote, and guess who wasn't there. You got it, Kerry. Both times, the two Republican senators in my home state voted for the extension.
So Kerry is looking out for the hard working folks of our country? I don't think so!
He did manage a rare appearance at his job for a key gun control vote. But that was before he started having photo ops with a riffle in hand.....LOL
Doonsbury is offering $10,000 but I think Texans for 'Truth' are offering $50,000 (??) so Sgt James Copeland could win the lottery if he applies. Someone should contact him in Hartselle, Alabama and let him know.
I just think it would be effective, and funny, to run ads calling him "AWOL".
One of his other guests, I think it was Norah O'Donnell, said Bush will win by 12 percent. Nobody on the panel looks too unhappy about Kerry being a loser.
BUMP FOR SPREADING THE WORD (beginning with Novak and Carlson).
hehehehehe .. SLAM!
Did Matthews say anything about the forged memo issue?
Cannot find an e-mail address for either Carlson or Novak. Don't want to send it to CNN 'viewer comments' as this will get tossed as too favorable to GWB.
I reckon, we can go back to Vietnam and solve its communism problem? We can start by displaying the yellow and red flag of Free Vietnam.
d.o.l.
Criminal Number 18F
Thanks for the heads up
It's ridiculous. One of the lines that they "told" them to cheer for was "I accept your nomination."
I mean, are they totally clueless?
And this is something new?? LOL
Did ya catch the part were they said the RNC has to be careful ...?
That's a good idea. They could keep calling his name, show his empty seat, show some stuffed shirts in the other seats looking around and shrugging their shoulders. That could be a pretty powerful image of how the Senator has faithfully collected his paycheck for the past couple of years while devoting himself to trashing the sitting President he is should have at least have professional courtesy toward.
Can you imagine this thin-skinned brat dealing with half the crap the President has let roll off his broad shoulders??
About what?
Listen to the reporters! We know as much as THEY know.
I like it. It would be a powerful play back on their own AWOL theme and would defuse the issue into political farce.
