Kerry, Edwards and Daschle May Face Vote on Flag
washington post ^ | 9/13/04

For some Republicans it is the perfect political storm: a Senate vote on a constitutional amendment to protect the U.S. flag that would put Democratic presidential nominee John F. Kerry, running mate John Edwards and Minority Leader Thomas A. Daschle on the spot just a few weeks before the Nov. 2 elections.

Spread the word... a non-vote is a vote for desecration of the flag.

Attach a rider that threatens their pork or legally secures something they hate. Don't just threaten to kick them in the 'nads and then give them an option - cut them off at the knees and drive them into the ground with a baseball bat.

Come on, you guys know better than to support this amendment. If someone owns a flag and decides to burn it, that's his decision. Even Zell Miller quoted a poem about soldiers who defend others' rights to burn the flag at the RNC Convention.

The Constitution is about limiting government power, not about restraining the American people.

Do you know if Article IV section 4 requires two thirds of those present or two thirds of members?

I don't burn the flag unless it is to dispose of one ceremonially. And nobody had better burn my flag, either. But you know better than to enact laws that restrain others' right to free expression. I won't support you if you do, and I'll definitely work to prevent this legislation from passing. This is one plank in the Republican party's convention platform that is statist and wrong.

Making these numbskulls vote for burning the flag sounds like a good idea to me.

You have a right to use it as firewood, if you wish. I would be enraged watching someone burn the flag, because I love my country. However, I love my country because we are free to express ourselves and live our lives as we wish.

Daschle is vulnerable this year from what I heard on the radio. This could take him down. Good ridance.

The ComPost is just trying to suggest that the Republicans are up to their old Machiavellian ways, using the flag issue for political purposes. The way the senate is tied up by the Democrats, this will never come to a vote before the election.

No, No, No, No! How dare you talk about something as irrelevant as the Constitution when we have a chance to poke the dems in the eye? Don't you know it is more important to win than have limited government? Why do you think "we've" been buying off every group possible with the largest spending increases in history over the last four years? "We've" got to stay in power! That's what it's all about!

Yeah, get the gov't off our backs. If we want to pull a baby out of the womb, except for the head, stick a Dremel tool into its brain and spin it out like an egg yolk, yank it out the rest of the way, wrap the tiny corpse in a flag, pour gasoline over it, and set the whole mess on fire in the parking lot, that's our own gosh darned business.

And we need hate speech legislation to prohibit telling anyone that it's wrong.
George W. Bush will win reelection by a margin of at least ten per cent.

I hope it doesn't-because this would be an incredibly stupid move...the momentum is on our side...why grandstand with something like this???

Put a "health care for seniors" rider on it. That'll make 'em implode.
