Is this tag OK or would you rather us use something else or nothing?

This thread contains a very credible expert witness concerning the typography. Any document you generate should at least reference it.

If we, as a group, elect to produce a MS Word document for
downloading, we will need a site to park it. Can anyone
volunteer a site, recognizing that such a site is likely
to get a LOT of hits?

If so, please post here and send a private mail with
your E-Mail address.

Thanks,
Dick

Dick,

There is a thread on FR on the extra two USA Today Killian documents. That's the only publication to show SIX memos, not four. The person who put that thread up can probably supply a section in your work for that sub-issue.

Is is just me, or does No 20 (i.e. bad / way out of date home address) come across as a "dead give-away" that the memo is a fake

The perp that forged this lifted the address off of GWB's published enlistment form and never bothered to do the basic research as perfromed here at FR!!!

Just this one point alone (forget IBM selectric, etc) is enough to blow away the whole credibility argument made by CBS

MY opinion is that CBS blacked it out on their public copy because they feared it would be a red flag!!!

Here's my suggestion for the tag line on this document:

FreeRepublic.com -- research and transmission for the New Media

That's short, sweet, and covers the only two things that FreeRepublic wants to be recognized for.

You have a numbering issue under Item E, Other Issues:

65. Both Lt Col Killian's wife and son, as well as the EAFB personnel officer do not find the memos credible.

65. The CBS Memos are totally inconsistent with the glowing performance reviews for Mr. Bush.

27. In the CBS Memo of August 18, 1973 Jerry Killian purportedly writes: "Staudt has obviously pressured Hodges more about Bush. I'm having trouble running interference and doing my job." but General Staudt, who thought very highly of Lt Bush, retired on March 1, 1972. General Staudt was no longer in the food chain!

This and the fact that Hodges says CBS misled him on the memos...and when he saw them...he knew they were fake....

ARE TWO HUGE STICKING POINTS. CBS can not simply brush that aside.

Standard Memo subject would have been

SUBJ: OR SUBJ/

Almost no one would type out this stuff in the Military, it wasn't required and we did so many and read so many that the Military Memo Short Form was the standing format.

Did you want typos also?? If so, this one needs to be changed:

20. 5000 Longmont #8 in Houston Tx. does not exist (actually does exist, but Lt Bush had already moved TWICE from this address at the time the memo was written). The address that the CBS Memo o4 May should have used is: 2910 Westheimer Rd. Apt 4. Lt Col Killian certainly would have known the correct address.

should be:
20. The address listed, 5000 Longmont #8 in Houston Tx. is not accurate (actually does exist, but Lt Bush had already moved TWICE from this address at the time the memo was written). The address that the CBS Memo 4 May should have used is: 2910 Westheimer Rd. Apt 4. Lt Col Killian certainly would have known the correct address.

There was a letter 'o' in front of the 4. Also, you shouldn't begin a point in a numbered list with a number, it confuses the reader. Better to put a bridge in front of it.

You should consider standardizing exactly how you refer to all these memos in the entire body of this report. Either give a list at the front, identifying them by date, and giving them a reference number, i.e. CBS1, CBS2, etc) or refer to them each time in the same manner, i.e. CBS Memo #, dated May 4, 1972.....

not to be nitpicky, but, there you go.

Re E) 53. 53. Retired Maj. General Hodges, Killian's supervisor at the TANG, told ABC News that he feels CBS misled him about the documents they uncovered. According to Hodges, CBS told him the documents were "handwritten" and after CBS read him excerpts he said, "well if he WROTE them that's what he felt." Hodges also said he did not see the documents in the 70's and he cannot authenticate the documents or the contents. His personal belief is that the documents have been "computer generated" and are a "fraud". http://abcnews.go.com/sections/politics/NotedNow/Noted_Now.html

Fox was reporting this afternoon that CBS did not contact him until 2 days before going forward with the story. Even then (If I remember correctly) they did not fax him copies to review, but only discussed 'content'. Dan Rather contacted him on Friday, after the story blew up, at which time Hodges 'walked Rather through' the issues that he believs are wrong, therefore, a forgery. Dan tells him, he stands by the original doc.

(Note: through the day I noticed Fox stepped up the story by increasing the direct implication of this fraud. Sure wish they'd also spend 30 seconds reminding everyone that Kerry still has not released his full military records and Tarayza's tax returns.. as promised. Also, Fox should do more in making know this document came from non-military personal files..... IMO)

Correct what may be a typo and grammar in 68:

68. The only device that could have produced the superscripted "th" in that period and proportional type in that timeframe would have been a Selectric Composer. This is not a typewriter but is used for special publication composing. It cost some $4,000 then ($23,000 today) and was incredibly difficult to operate. The machine basically consisted of an IBM Selectric typewriter with a 3-1/2 ft. high upright case containing the magnetic tape reader reading long spools of magnetic tape in cartridges. It also needed a special IBM service person above and beyond repairing typewriters. It is not clear that the AirForce had even three units at that time and the TANG clearly did not. To suggest that Col Killian, who could barely type and even if he could, would have been able to operate one of these machines is absurd. The operating manual is here at http://www.ibmcomposer.org/docs.htm.

I'd suggest New Stream Media instead of New Main Stream Media.
