On September 10, 2004, Dan Rather declared war on the internet. He shouldn't have because it's a battle he is destined to lose. Addressing only a small part of the hundreds of criticisms that web-based critics and assorted typewriter, font, and military experts have lodged against his report, Rather and his CBS colleagues seem to have a masochistic desire for punishment. Our latest updates on the Memogate controversy are posted below. For our 21-point rebuttal to Rather's Sept. 10 salvo, click here.
The unraveling continues. Two of the three people cited on-camera by CBS News as vouching for its conclusion that Jerry Killian--the former Air National Guard commanding officer of George W. Bush--authored incriminating memoranda about the future president have, in subsequent interviews with other media organizations, tempered their support for CBS.
Robert Strong, who served with Killian as an officer tells the New York Times that he does not believe that his former associate used a proportional font typewriter during his time in the Texas guard.
"Mr. Strong said in an interview Friday he was quite sure that he and others used Selectrics in the adjutant general's office. He added that he was not sure the typewriters and devices were also in the 147th Combat Support Squadron at the Ellington base in Houston, home of the 111th squadron.
"'I'm skeptical that Killian was working on that,' Mr. Strong said."
Strong's comments come on the heels of a statement from Marcel Matley, a writing analyst whom CBS presented as having certified its four documents. Interviewed by the Los Angeles Times, however, Matley said that he only vouched for one to the network.
Welcome queenkathy,
FR is truly a fascinating place. From now on you will be ahead of any breaking news by 2 to 3 days.
By the way, note that Mr Marley, the authenticator, is doing a crab imitation. Guess he suddenly realized the power of the internet digging up his past, his writings and his "singular opinion" of the veracity of the Vince Foster "28 little pieces" suicide note.
As a consultant, you don't build a reputation by being associated with certifying fakes over and over again. Hope his career is over just like Dan's.

...and the NEXT DAY, McAullife said that CARL ROVE purposely leaked FAKE documents!!!
So there you have it...
Now, they only are arguing who created them!
What if the MSM blows their credibility over this so BADLY that their 'October Surprise' is NOT BELIEVED?
Possible? What do you think?

Strong, Matley... Rats going ashore.
How sweet would it be if 60 minutes dissappeared?
No more Wallace, Blather, Rooney and Bradley (a grown man with that cute little earing?)
I quit watching them seriously years ago but I had to stop a few times while surfing, sort of like watching a car wreck. Sick bunch.
Ssssssssssssssshhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.
(They don't realize that is exactly what they are doing now .....)
Maybe its a conspiracy theory, but I find there is an odd coincidence with the timing of Begala and Carville being added to the Kerry lineup. My half-baked theory is that the Klinton Kamp are using those two to sabotage the Kerry Kampaign from inside. Could Hillary really make a run in 2008 if Kerry/Edwards were the incumbants? Is there no honor among democrats (thieves)
If nothing else, maybe America will see the MSM for the hypocrites that they are.
Welcome to FR!
And welcome to you as well - it is nice to see so many new people!

Sorry CBS, the memos did not come from an IBM Selectric.
The memos didnt come from an IBM Composer either.
FR thread here: Typewriter expert cant duplicate Guard memos using IBM Composer Sorry CBS.
In simpler terms: "When you hear the thunder of hoof beats, look for horses, not zebras."
P.S. Particularly in the good old U.S. of A.
Thanks for the ping to your good documentation.
Welcome to FR!

"What if the MSM blows their credibility over this so BADLY that their 'October Surprise' is NOT BELIEVED?"
Many of us feel that the MSM has made itself unbelieveable about anything they say about GW. This goes back to the election of 2000, the Floriduh mess, and then their constant attacks on him since he was sworn in.
If they continue this stuff with the Kitty Kelly Litter Box on the Today show next wing, they will continue to lose audiences.
If GW really whacks Kerry in the election, we will probably see massive changes in the MSM NOTNEWS programming posing as news.
We could see C BS retiring Blather and eliminating their evening news hour with a small recap on the hour each night. If that happens NBC and flies, NBC will retire Brokaw and do the same. When that happens ABC will retire Jennings. CNN could end up being bought by the France.
They are in real trouble, and each one of these unbased/shrill attacks on GW are costing them viewers and probably advertisers.
Lets hope that they are like the dinosaurs when the iceage started, doomed but too stupid to realize that they were doomed.
The DUs are hung up on 'the White House saw the memos and they thought they were real' (because the WH didn't say anything, just made sure that the forgeries were given to many people) - how long will it take before it occurs to them that the WH DID know, and CBS and Rather are dunces for falling for the whole thing hook, line and sinker?
I'm loving the whole thing, but if CBS and Rather get a pass, not sure if there is enough prozac in the world to get me thru the next 6 weeks.
Welcome to Free Republic and your reply has some critical issues in it.
"What motivated Blather and crew to break those memos is beyond sanity. Did desperate times, such as the polls that they seem to live and die by, lead them to desperate measures. Was it arrogance that they could drop some bombshell hoping to discredit President Bush and that the other news organizations would follow suit and march to the beat like faithful liberal media types do? Was it sheer stupidity?"
I think that it was arrogance combined with desperation to help Kerry and their own sinking ship. This may be the beginning of the swan song for Blather, 60 minutes and C BS NOTNEWS posing as news.
"Maybe its a conspiracy theory, but I find there is an odd coincidence with the timing of Begala and Carville being added to the Kerry lineup. If Kerry gets Mondaled, that will be the end of the Kennedy Camelot bs even by proxy. Teddy's liver will give out on him before 2008. Ma Ma T Rex will invoke her bullet proof pre nups on Lurch after he is defeated. He will retire to Jamica to teach surfboarding on snow trails.
Then, we will have a battle between liberals like Zell and the Hildebea$t for control of the rat party. I don't think that the Clintoons have a lock on the party, and they could get blamed for Kerry's Mondale 2 act.
Links that actually work are a good thing. Hope these work. < / blush >
Most compelling Site I've seen that the forgeries are fake.
Sorry CBS, the memos did not come from an IBM Selectric.
The memo's didn't come from an IBM Composer either.
Sorry CBS.
Should know better than to attack an AlGore invention.LOL!
