Another CBS Source Backs Down

On September 10, 2004, Dan Rather declared war on the internet. He shouldn't have because it's a battle he is destined to lose. Addressing only a small part of the hundreds of criticisms that web-based critics and assorted typewriter, font, and military experts have lodged against his report, Rather and his CBS colleagues seem to have a masochistic desire for punishment. Our latest updates on the Memogate controversy are posted below. For our 21-point rebuttal to Rather's Sept. 10 salvo, click here.

The unraveling continues. Two of the three people cited on-camera by CBS News as vouching for its conclusion that Jerry Killian--the former Air National Guard commanding officer of George W. Bush--authored incriminating memoranda about the future president have, in subsequent interviews with other media organizations, tempered their support for CBS.

Robert Strong, who served with Killian as an officer tells the New York Times that he does not believe that his former associate used a proportional font typewriter during his time in the Texas guard.

"Mr. Strong said in an interview Friday he was quite sure that he and others used Selectrics in the adjutant general's office. He added that he was not sure the typewriters and devices were also in the 147th Combat Support Squadron at the Ellington base in Houston, home of the 111th squadron.

"'I'm skeptical that Killian was working on that,' Mr. Strong said."

Strong's comments come on the heels of a statement from Marcel Matley, a writing analyst whom CBS presented as having certified its four documents. Interviewed by the Los Angeles Times, however, Matley said that he only vouched for one to the network.

"Anybody look into the PO Box number? "PO Box 34567" looks....'made up.'"

It is. The DoD has already said it's bogus as hell........just like the rest of these "memos". This just gets better and better, doesn't it? :)

So in their arrogance, they came out with their October Surprise in September.

Q: Why now instead of October?

A: Because they wanted to time the release of the "documents" to create a political firestorm that would limit any chance Bush had to benefit from the 911 anniversery. The timing is so obvious.

"I do wonder though if the damage is already done. They got the documents out there on a very-watched program. Many will not see or hear beyond that".

It has been on every cable news channel, and network. It is the BUZZ of the week. The truth is spreading like a virus!

Plus, the legacy print news weeklies are eager to get into this battle.

Agreed. A junior print reporter has a much better chance of getting his/her name into the spotlight than the comparable TV news-grunt.

My experience has been that, other than big-ticket items, the military are generally tightwads concerning everyday things like office supplies and probably Col. Killian would NOT even *have* a 1970's-era typewriter on his desk,

There's a reference on one of the threads (sorry, don't recall which one), which describes the testimony of a co-worker of Killian sharing a clerk who did their typing. Neither of them ever typed anything at the NG.

"I don't think Bush will be hurt or helped much either way by this."

Probably not much, but consider: Kerry's support is very soft, and if this exposure cools the jets of one Kerry voter in a hundred, that's a one percent drop in his vote. If one percent say the hell with it and stay home, or even a few switch to Bush, it could swing a state or two, especially in the close battleground states.

It could also carry over into the Congressional and Senate races via dampened turnout. This kind of development may not change many votes from Kerry to Bush but it has to be demoralizing as all hell for the luke-warm 'crap voter.

When even the mighty IBM Composer, in the hands of an expert, can't duplicate the C-BS "memos", there is a hugh and series problem.

The lefties were citing it as proof Bush was ordered toi take a physical. Since he didn't he disobeyed a direct order

They are lying as can be seen here

Notice where it states Says he will that in Alababa if he stays in a flight status. I understand the NG in Alabama did not have the planes he was trained to fly, therefore a flight phisical was totally unnecssary

Blather is an old Dinosaur. Well the Ice Age for CBS and Blather hit when they released the forgeries and lies about GW this past week. CBS NewsNot and Blather will be history like the dinosaus by the next election cycle.

Yes, but CBS is still stuck in its Vietnam War timeframe.

CBS's typist used Bush's original (1968-era) home address when they typed up this 1972 "CYA memo" ....

But Bush had moved sveral times by then, and his change-of-address records prove it.

Bush got his Honorable Discharge-period.
When you get that closes the book on your Service, the Branch of Service giving you a legal document that you served honorably.

We need a new 527 to form and take on CBS...demand the resignation of Dan Blather and CBS to make a public apology. We need to jave a solid and steady attack on the MSM for its biased Bush-bashing reporting.
