The Threat Matrix

The title refers to a daily report given to the president of the United States detailing the most serious terrorist threats against the country. To tackle those threats, the government has formed a top-notch task force to infiltrate the terror cells and cut off the danger.

"Every morning, the president receives a list of the top ten terrorist threats - this list is known as the threat matrix."

We here at FR are trying to be in conjunction with the daily reports around the world that involve threats. We try to provide a storehouse of information that takes hours of research.

Muslim group takes responsibility for 9-11: 'We are so sorry'

This September 11 marks the third unforgettable anniversary of the worst mass murder in American history.

After September 11, many in the Muslim world chose denial and hallucination rather than face up to the sad fact that Muslims perpetrated the 9-11 terrorist acts and that we have an enormous problem with extremism and support for terrorism. Many Muslims, including religious leaders, and "intellectuals" blamed 9-11 on a Jewish conspiracy and went as far as fabricating a tale that 4000 Jews did not show up for work in the World Trade Center on 9-11. Yet others blamed 9-11 on an American right wing conspiracy or the U.S. Government which allegedly wanted an excuse to invade Iraq and "steal" Iraqi oil.

Absolutely true about Drudge. He was usually my first stop when checking on the latest updates on unusual stories. My thought a few weeks ago regarding Drudge was that he had become too mainstream; and that possibly the "powers that be" had asked him to tone down his coverage.

I now usually only find stories by googling certain words and phrases. I find stories that have never made the mainstream news, usually only locally covered.

Washington Dispatch today about Drudge "Matt Drudge was once the inspiration of independent reporters around the globe. Through his own bias or lack of follow-through, he has become the bruise on Internet media that may never heal." A while back we had some discussions here about his lack of follow through. http://www.washingtondispatch.com/culture/archives/000643.html

Here is an example of some of the stories that I find....please note that this is coming from Australia. I will be looking to see how long this story takes to actually make it to the U.S. mainstream media.

Nuclear Equipment Missing from Iraq Says UN

Last Update: Tuesday, October 12, 2004. 5:30am (AEST) Equipment and materials that could be used to make nuclear weapons are disappearing from Iraq but neither Baghdad nor Washington appear to have noticed, the UN nuclear watchdog agency reported yesterday.

Satellite imagery shows that entire buildings in Iraq have been dismantled. They once housed high-precision equipment that could help a government or terror group make nuclear bombs, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said in a report to the UN Security Council.

Equipment and materials helpful in making bombs also have been removed from open storage areas in Iraq and disappeared without a trace, according to the satellite pictures, IAEA director-general Mohamed El Baradei said.

While some military goods that disappeared from Iraq after the March 2003 US-led invasion, including missile engines, later turned up in scrap yards in the Middle East and Europe, none of the equipment or material known to the IAEA as potentially useful in making nuclear bombs has turned up yet, El Baradei said.

The United States barred the return of UN weapons investigators after launching war on Iraq in March 2003, preventing the IAEA from keeping tabs on high-tech equipment and materials up to the present day.

Under anti-proliferation agreements, the US occupation authorities who administered Iraq until June, and then the Iraqi interim Government that took power at the end of June, would have to inform the IAEA if they moved or exported any of that material or equipment.

But no such reports have been received since the invasion, officials of the watchdog agency said. The United States also has not publicly commented on earlier UN inspectors' reports disclosing the dismantling of a range of key weapons-making sites, raising the question of whether it was unable to monitor the sites. 'We simply don't know' In the absence of any US or Iraqi accounting, council diplomats said the satellite images could mean the gear had been moved to new sites inside Iraq or stolen.

If stolen, it could end up in the hands of a government or terrorist group seeking nuclear weapons. "We simply don't know, although we are trying to get the information," said one council diplomat, speaking on condition of anonymity. US officials had no immediate comment on the report. President George W Bush, locked in a tough re-election battle with Senator John Kerry, justified the war, in part, by saying that then-Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein was on the brink of developing a nuclear bomb that he might use against the United States or give to terrorists.

Both men agreed during a September 30 debate that nuclear proliferation is the most serious threat facing the United States. A new CIA report last week by chief US weapons investigator Charles Duelfer made clear, however, that Saddam had all but given up on his nuclear program after the first Gulf War in 1991.

Mr El Baradei, whose agency dismantled Iraq's nuclear arms program over a decade ago, drew similar conclusions to the Duelfer report well before the March 2003 invasion. In his latest report, Mr El Baradei said the IAEA remained "concerned about the widespread and apparently systematic dismantlement" of former nuclear sites it used to monitor. "As the disappearance of such equipment and materials may be of proliferation significance, any state that has information about the location of such items should provide IAEA with that information," his report said.

When Mr. RR is home, we almost always have the TV tuned to the History Channel. We saw the TWA 800 show.........very interesting. It even made my resident skeptic raise his eyebrows. "Maybe you were right", he said.

History Channel *validation* is a wonderful thing!

As much programming as they have done on UFO's lately, perhaps he will come around on that issue as well.......but I doubt it.

Thank you kindly RR....if only we didn't need to heed that statement. I'm thinking of my blissfilled days growing up in the 70's...80's...and pre 9/11. Although I must say that I am heartened to have an inkling of knowledge about what the Israeli's have had to deal with on a daily basis.

How could "equipment and materials that could be used to make nuclear weapons" disappear from Iraq, if Iraq supposedly didn't have any of those materials????

Your list looks great to me! Thanks for the compilation.

I got a chuckle out of "carton of cigarettes" and "tequila"
being under miscellaneous. These may need to be switched to the mandatory category.

I am wondering that as well. But the timeline of the satellite images are the key. Did it happen just prior to or during our presence. Were these the same images that the CIA and our government were using to justify WMD's.

My opinion is that Iraq's neighbors like Iran and Syria have some knowledge on this subject.

As much as I distrust the UN and all of their dealings; I am also wondering if this info. is coming out now to cover for their "Oil for Food" misdeeds.

Are they trying to get our attention away from all the countries and people who gained from their 12 years of sanctions against Iraq. While doing back-room deals with Saddam.

Wonderful point!!!!

It seem so obvious to us.

Surely others can see this reasoning. I would hope!!!

Are we to worry about Yellowstone

Quix -
I reviewed the report you posted and thank you for providing the second, alternative view which is closer to what I support and understand. First about the first part of the post.

Dr. Bruce Cornet is better know for his work in the arena of UFOs than he is in geology. He is extensively referenced by the UFO and paranormal folks on the web via Google search and it appears that this area is where he has focused most of his efforts since the late 1980’s. He states that he was abducted in 1981 while mudlogging at an oil drill rig. This gives me an initial tinfoil alert as to how he may view other issues.
I could not find the source of his PhD, but do suspect it is in geology, probably paleobiology or paleontology. These fields would support his background in petroleum exploration. I cannot confirm if any of his web-posted work has ever made it into a professional journal.

Regarding some of what Dr. Cornet observe at Yellowstone, more is known about Yellowstone and other volcanically active area in the US than 24 years ago when Mt. St. Helens erupted. Much of this is due to the recognition of the potential hazards as well as better tools to monitor seismological indicators of magmatic activity. This in turn has caused an increase in the known seismologic activity because of more monitoring. This increase in data creates a false image that all of sudden Yellowstone has become very active, where the truth is activity levels haven’t changed significantly over the longer period of time and just weren’t recorded and reported.

Geothermal activity at the park changes almost yearly. I personally observed changes in the Mud Volcano / Black Dragon Cauldron site located in the Hayden Valley. In 1978 the ‘sizzling basin’ portion of the circular walk suddenly changed with numerous fumarols and smaller mud volcanos developing throughout the ‘basin’ (approximately 1-2 acres). This activity continued over the next couple of years until finally by 1983 the activity had died down and the more typical ‘sizzling basin’ aspect returned to ‘normal’.

The catastrophic model Cornet is using for Yellowstone is not shared by many other volcanologists studying the volcano as well expressed in the second half of the post. Though it is true that past eruptions have been large and extensive, and that it is capable of doing so again is well known. In fact for me this is old news, we discussed this over 20 years ago while I was an undergrad. How a future eruption may develop is still disputable and it is unlikely that it would blow as unexpected as his writing implies.

Bottom line. Yellowstone deserves to be monitored, however, I wouldn’t go out and but dust masks any time soon as she will give plenty advanced notice when she awakens again.
