NEW YORK -- Yesterday, Goliath CBS News was delivered a smooth stone to the forehead by a FReeper.
A poster in the FreeRepublic.com conservative news forum mentioned something peculiar about two documents CBSs 60 Minutes claimed on September 8 were generated by now deceased Lieutenant Colonel Jerry B. Killian regarding an allegedly National Guard-evading George W. Bush in 1973.
Within minutes following the broadcast, FReeper "TankerKC" wrote this to FReeper "Howlin'":
WE NEED TO SEE THOSE MEMOS AGAIN!
{snip]
Since then, news of the potential forgery glitch spread like wildfire from blog to blog and into the mainstream press - especially that of CBS competitors ABC and NBC.

I love it!..Congratulations
Don't you just love it? They're getting THEIR news from us!
LOL! Great graphic.
Looks like it was addressed in this thread:
White House distributed docs to raise awareness of forgery
Jim, it has nothing to do with this thread, but when are we going to be able to get more than 20 messages on our "pings" page again? I keep thinking it's going to clear up, but it doesn't.
"CNN Headline News a few minutes ago said a former Japanese official had said GW told him some time ago that his father had pulled strings"
I think that CNN must have made a mistake about the person being Japanese. He was obviously French. It must have been Jacques "Wantabe Aworldpower" Chirac. His beady eyes can easily be mistaken for those of an Asian.
I'm sure Jacques is losing lots of sleep right now.
Pajamas?
I just e-mailed that out to my list!!!
We've made the big time (mhking, I'm sure there's a ping list somewhere on your computer that this is worthy of).
oh............ my.............. god!!!! ROTF Gasping For Air!
You are too funny but I'm worried somehow the Democrats and MSM are going to try some dirty trick to get Free Republic yanked. You've done such a great service for all or us that feel our voices have been silenced for so long buy the MSM.
Personally I think Dan Rather had an axe to grind with the Bush Family.....Dan's been looking for payback since the 1988 on air interview with GHW Bush when George pointed out that Dan had left the studio on air in a huff one night. I remember that George was suffering from a weak image....but not after that interview.........
I'm pretty sure CBS is Gonna be watching so..........I'll just go put my tinfoil hat back on now!
Didn't those have the built in font spacers. too? Or whould that be "de-spacers?"
Care to ping the NASCAR list, or should I?
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- CBS Evening News anchor Dan Rather won the Quote of the Year award last night at the Media Research Centers annual Dishonors Awards Ceremony. The audience chose Rather from among the evenings top three Dishonor award winners. Rather won for his absurd defense of Bill Clintons honesty during his appearance on Fox News Channels The OReilly Factor last May 15.
Bill OReilly: I want to ask you flat out, do you think President Clintons an honest man?
Dan Rather: Yes, I think hes an honest man.
OReilly: Do you, really?
Rather: I do.
OReilly: Even though he lied to Jim Lehrers face about the Lewinsky case?
Rather: Who among us has not lied about something?
OReilly: Well, I didnt lie to anybodys face on national television. I dont think you have, have you?
Rather: I dont think I ever have. I hope I never have. But look, its one thing
OReilly: How can you say hes an honest guy then?
Rather: Well, because I think he is. I think at core hes an honest person. I know that you have a different view. I know that you consider it sort of astonishing anybody would say so, but I think you can be an honest person and lie about any number of things.
It really wasnt much of a contest, said MRC President Brent Bozell. Rathers insistence that someone much less a President of the United States could be an honest man at his core and still lie about any number things was more than the audience could take. Rather admitted that we would consider it in his words astonishing that anyone would think that way and say so, and hes right.
Care to ping the NASCAR list, or should I?
Another few years, and I envision entries into Websters Dictionary for:
* Free Republic
* Freep
* Freeped
* Freeper
Two comments:
1. Everyone knows when one wears pajamas, one's brain stops working.
2. If they worked on this story for four years and couldn't find anything damning on GWB, they reached a point at which the election is mere weeks away. They could not allow four years' of hard work trying to uncover something which did not exist to go to waste. They became desparate to go on air with *something* damaging to Bush.
Thanks to Phil for providing the link below and to see what Howlin told the world re how these documents were forged:
Just click on the link and watch the forgery happen. It is automatic and will take about 1 minute.

You have exposed the MSM for the "useful idiots" they are!
I just love the fact that you saw to it that Dan Rather had to face the music-- and he's NOT a very good singer!
God Bless you, and thank you for helping this great country. You have also helped to make this world a safer place.
...and Howlin, when you try to be all humble about this, remember...there are no accidents. You were very much a part of the equation.
