RATHER DIGS IN: THE DOCUMENTS ARE AUTHENTIC

CBSNEWS anchor and 60 MINUTES correspondent Dan Rather publicly defended his reporting Friday morning after questions were raised about the authenticity of newly unearthed memos aired on CBS which asserted that George W. Bush ignored a direct order from a superior officer in the Texas Air National Guard.

CNN TRANSCRIPT:

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

DAN RATHER, CBS NEWS ANCHOR: I know that this story is true. I believe that the witnesses and the documents are authentic. We wouldn't have gone to air if they would not have been. There isn't going to be -- there's no -- what you're saying apology?

QUESTION: Apology or any kind of retraction or...

RATHER: Not even discussed, nor should it be. I want to make clear to you, I want to make clear to you if I have not made clear to you, that this story is true, and that more important questions than how we got the story, which is where those who don't like the story like to put the emphasis, the more important question is what are the answers to the questions raised in the story, which I just gave you earlier.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

CBS NEWS executives on Thursday launched an internal investigation into whether its premiere news program 60 MINUTES aired fabricated documents relating to Bush's National Guard service, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned. "The reputation and integrity of the entire news division is at stake, if we are in error, it will be corrected," a top CBS source explained late Thursday.

On top of that, the Admin Moderator has just pulled a story linking Soros to Professor Strong, one of the backers of this story. Strong is one of two faculty advisors who give out grants from a Soros foundation grant to selected students.

Surely with all of Soros's gazillions of dollars he could have hired a better forger. This was pathetic.

This man is certifiable, delusional, and nothing more then a partisan hack. His legacy as a journalist, will be as an example of how not to do your job, in all credible schools of journalism.

I give anything to hear what they're talking about at the DNC/KE04 headquarters today!

I bet it'd make the Nixon oval office look like a Boy Scout meeting.

*BS BREAKING NEWS. The real D*n R*ther has escaped after being held by right-wing Republican operatives. He claims he was held while a substitute lookalike was put in his place to do the report on GWB.

That's another false story, because Rather was obviously drugged by the Republican Party, for him to proceed on this.

".....the more important question is what are the answers to the questions raised in the story..."

Rather needs a Swift Boat up his ass. Maybe he will search for answers to the questions by the Swiftees.

He could also take a few lesson on the documentation of a story from John O'Neill. "Yeah, that sounds like something Killian would have written" doesn't cut it.

Of course he will dig in. He is a stealth communist/socialist Clinton style. What was Clinton's modus operandi?

DENY, (?) , DELAY, DESTROY?

It was a four word smirky line, but I can never remember the second word.
Worked for Clinton!

Bush should sue today for $100 million. Reckless disregard, actual malice and all that. Offer to drop suit if CBS names names before the election. Leave it to shareholder pressure.

I'll go on the line and make my bet: Rather will resign when this is over.

Nope, he doesn't know the meaning of the word honorable. He'll deny deny deny. Denial Dan.

And what happens if CBS comes out with more stuff proving it's not a forgery? Doesn't this have the danger of making this story -- which is a non-story IMHO -- into a story, damaging to Bush, damaging to Free Republic?

Too late. There are too many Kerryites scrambling to show these could be genuine. If there was a typewriter in existence that could produce those memos, it'd be public knowledge by now.

Can someone explain to me why anyone is calling Dan Rather or CBS a "dupe" in this? Considering what they have been up to from the parent company on down in this election season, it looks to me that they are willing participants if not instigators.

Maybe they are waiting for some overnights to see how there ratings are doing? If there ratings show signs of tanking(which is hard to imagine them dropping further) then they will be forced to correct the problem, Dan Rather, woodshed=new anchor.

"I believe CBS and Rather released the fake documents KNOWING they were probably fake, just to take the spotlight away from the POW Vietnam Vets, who released their documentary DVD this week showing Kerry's 1971 speech before the US Senate really did harm POWS in Vietnam."

I agree. Just before this story broke I was saying to my family that they should expect some diversionary blockbuster from the democrats to force the Kerry treachery out of the limelight. I am so glad it turned out to be CBS and Dan RATher, Executive RAT.

What a great week to be a freeper.

If the documents were real, CBS News would have released the originals immediately (after all, CBS is claiming they got them DIRECTLYfrom Killian's "personal records" and so they MUST HAVE the originals!

Complete with Killian's fingerprints and the original typewriter keystroke impressions.

In porporional font.

Centered exactly.

Exactly spaced and exactly laid out on the page, with no errors or changes.

After all, we all know that Killian COUDLN'T Type, and so he had do all this exactly right the first time he sat down at a professional-level typesettign machine.

Counting points and measuring paper centers. Exactly.
