This movie needs to be shown on prime time TV in the states. Every feminist should be forced to watch...

Every feminist should be forced to watch... Why? SO they can screech "This is what the Republicans want to do!"

I have wanted to see this since last winter. The trailer is haunting. It got a Golden Globe, iir, but wasn't even nominated for an Oscar. Surprise. Surprise.

Every feminist should be forced to watch...This Republican feminist would love to see the movie.
BTW, please don't lump all feminists with the FemiNazis. Feminism with regards to the support, encouragement and nurturing of women and female children is not an evil concept. Rather, individuals with evil agendas have bastardized the concept.

It would be great if they would post it on the net. Or run it in swing states. Or both.

They actually do say that we simply want to replace the Taliban with Western Patriarchy, so there is really no difference b/w the two.

I saw the movie.
Very realistic portrayal of life in Afghanistan under the Taliban rule.
Frightnening to say the least.

This has been available on DVD for some time. It is a great film and, in my opinion, one of the most important films of the last decade.

I saw the movie. Can you talk some details about the movie? What made the greatest impression? What still sticks in your mind? Thanks.

Female children? I always called them "girls." Silly old Neanderthal me.Nope, you're normal. Most of the rest of the world is not, however, and sadly the term "girls" is in some circles an emotionally-charged and/or derogatory term. Please forgive my use of PC on this forum. I sometimes forget the identity of my audience.

What's REALLY frightening is the notion that most wahhabists (which comprise 80% of the Islamic imams in the U.S.) think the Taliban's way of treating women is spot-on. That's what they want for the rest of us!

What made the greatest impression?
The repression of the women, (starving) with sheer force, fire hoses, and guns.
The execution of a journalist.
The total disregard of human rights or any advancement of their society, it was like this place was in a stranglehold, (satanic) with all emphasis of the koran being shoved down their throat.
The young boys being indoctrinated with this poison, (islam) and no hope for any future was heartbreaking.

I bought a copy of Osama on DVD when it was released earlier in the year. It is likely the most relentlessly depressing great film I have ever seen. I cannot explain it to you. It must be seen to be understood or, more accurately, felt down to your core.
It will leave you devastated, but you will also swell with pride that our troops put an end to the domination of these vermin.

The hopelessness of the main character who is a girl disguised as a boy to avoid starvation for her family - all women. She is caught when she menstrates for the 1st time. Instead of the normal stoning to death, she is saved by a crony iman of the judge and packed off to a poor harem for raping / baby production. The sadness is that the iman is elderly and the whole harem may be without a means of survival when he dies. Poignant due to the recuring theme of the girl jump roping even in jail.
