Marjorie Connell — widow of the late Lt. Col. Jerry Killian, the reported author of memos suggesting that Bush did not meet the standards for the Texas Air National Guard — questions whether the documents are real on tonight's NIGHTLINE, sources tell DRUDGE.

I WAS ANGRY, BECAUSE HERE THEY ARE GOING BACK AND PULLING RECORDS OF A MAN WHO IS DECEASED TWENTY YEARS, WHO IS NOT HERE TO EXPLAIN WHAT ANY OF THESE DOCUMENTS SAID OR SUPPOSED TO HAVE SAID, AND I JUST FOUND IT APPALLING. I WAS SICK THAT HERE WITHOUT WARNING HIS PICTURES ARE UP THERE, HIS NAME IS BEING BATTLED BACK AND FORTH AND I, LIVID I GUESS IS A BETTER WORD FOR IT."

I JUST DON'T BELIEVE THAT, IT LOOKS LIKE SOME THINGS MAY HAVE BEEN PICKED UP OUT OF A DOCUMENT AND THEN OTHER THINGS JUST MADE FICTITIOUSLY TO FILL IN THINGS, TO MAKE THEM FLOW. I JUST CAN'T BELIEVE THAT THIS IS HIS WORDS, MY LATE HUSBAND'S WORDS."

HE ALWAYS KNEW WHERE EVERYTHING WAS, AND IF HE NEEDED TO PULL IT OUT OF HIS WALLET ON A LITTLE NOTE OR SOMETHING, BUT HE JUST DIDN'T TAKE MANY NOTES."
A small mention of how the experts they contacted said this document was BS. Countered by CBS experts saying they were authentic and verified by the dreaded "unknown sources".

I can't believe CBS overlooked one of the oldest rules in news reporting: call up the source and verify it. They could have made a 10 minute call to Killian's widow beforehand and they would have saved themselves the embarrassment of discovering the memos they made such a big deal of were a forgery. In their rush to blacken President Bush's good name, they forgot to do the obvious. And now ABC is scooping up the story. Call it CBSGate. It backfired on them big time.

Cheney has Kerry in a box. Either Kerry sticks with his "if attacked I will resond" bs with pictures of hundreds of dead children in Belsan, Russia on peoples minds or he agrees that Bushs preemption policy is the way to go. Either way Kerry is screwed, glued and tatooed.

Lehand - anything's possible (even Bush slipping these docs out!!!) in a campaign like this. I certainly don't think this sounds like anything (our) campaign would have have knowledge of.
How long before Baghdad Bob anchors Nightline and Sixty Minutes?
