Democrats taking a chance on ``Fortunate Son'' criticism of Bush Guard records
San Francisco Chronicle ^ | 9/9/04 | RON FOURNIER

The DNC has nicknamed its effort "Operation Fortunate Son" after a Creedence Clearwater Revival anti-war anthem from the 1960s. The song speaks of the privileged few, "born silver spoon in hand," who send others to war.

"Second, it begins to paint a picture of a very fortunate son who uses connections and pulls strings for special favors. That is a theme running through the man's life."

I really have such contempt for these people even as I try to amuse myself with their efforts. The so called progressives are lost in some kind of 60s culture. They have a war hero/hero protester running for President, they are dragging out the music of that era to name their campaign strategies and they have a bunch of has been musicians touring the country trying to get the magic back. They are pathetic. When I was in school in the 70's I was always thankful it wasn't the 60s, now these goofs are treating it like the golden age.

Ben Barnes is more than just a long-time Dem activist.

This is what Ben is most famous for.

Believe it or not, this is probably the most memorable scandal in Texas history.

"Actually, at the time Kerry served on her Gridley was technically a "frigate," DLG-21."

Interesting. Thank you, I did not know that. I love Free Republic, you learn something new every day around here. ;-)

She was a rather small cruiser, referred to as a "hermaphrodite" cruiser when I was in. Kind of a "jack of all trades." Nowhere near the same as the full-blown cruisers like the Chicago and the Long Beach, and smaller than the Spruance class destroyers.

I was on a destroyer, USS Berkeley, DDG-15, and she was somewhat larger than we were. I think that we outgunned her, though. She had a helo deck aft instead of weapons systems. She did have a dual-arm missle launcher though, while ours was a "one-armed bandit."

And nobody perceives Kerry as "privileged", right?

I discerned this talking point throughout the day including Dana Millbank with the WaPo telling it to the fatuous Keith Olbermann.

That would make this the second old song that the Democrats have destroyed. First it was Ronstadt inexplicably using Desperado for Michael Moore and now it's Fortunate Song from the mouth of a traitor. Nice. Loved both songs- can now listen to neither without mass annoyance.

But perhaps there are wheels within wheels here in the dark cesspools of the minds of the democratic overlords and elitea. Could it be that Kerry is being submarined to set up Hillary for 2008?

The theory only holds true if the mainstream media exposes the forgery. So far, only Fox and ABC have cast doubts.

We'll know more in a few days. (I'm still waiting for the Sandy Burglar story to break . . .)

Very sick.

I saw several dems like Wolfson looking very pleased with themselves today.

I believe that may well have been the whole idea behind what looks like a very sloppily done forgery.

Be sure to tell your boss that John Kerry got the same FOUR 2-S deferments that Dick Cheney got -- and that he tried to get a FIFTH one by asking his draft board to let him go to France to study the next year; when they turned him down, he enlisted in the NAVAL RESERVE -- NOT THE NAVY so he wouldn't be drafted into the Army.

Per Boston Globe regarding Kerry's request for swift boats - http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2004/03/07/wkerr07.xml

"I didn't really want to get involved in the war," Kerry said in a little-noticed contribution to a book of Vietnam reminiscences published in 1986. "When I signed up for the swift boats, they had very little to do with the war. They were engaged in coastal patrolling and that's what I thought I was going to be doing."

I ain't no senator's son

Al Gore. He, accompanied by his bodyguard, took photos for Stars and Stripes of USO performances. He was assigned to follow Nancy Sinatra from stop to stop--at least the safe ones.

They are questioning his character, his honor, his truthfulness, and his integrity.

Exactly. They can't stand that our guy is the real deal while they're stuck with Clintons and Kerry and the rest of their bozo-like losers.

This one was trotted out in 2000 also.

I guess the big difference is that it is all the RATs have to run on this time and the MSM will give them unlimited time to slime W to their heart's content.

i'll be sure and pass that one on too....though all it does is get him all fired up again and I have to listen to the rants and raves....the happiest day of his life (i think) was when i introduced him to bush-41....he is a total republican and absolutely loves the bushes....
