BushGuardaugust1 memo - a FAKE
CBS, self | 9/9/04 | Carl Donath

Posted on 09/09/2004 2:09:48 PM PDT by ctdonath2

Proof the CBS document BushGuardaugust1.pdf is a FAKE:

Original text, slightly adjusted for rectangular fit:

Same text, screen capture of document written in MS Word 2002 with no effort to match original aside from document width:

Overlapping images, with original as B/W negative:

Aside from slight warping presumably due to distortion introduced by a low-quality photocopier, the two texts line up exactly. The "30+ year old proof" against Bush is a fraud.

I am having trouble understanding the superscripts in your recreation versus the CBS "original." As we all know by now, the modern MS Word has a feature whereby "st" or "th" will jump to superscript when they follow directly after a numeral but will not do so if there is a space following the numeral.

In the CBS version, in paragraph 1 the abbreviation "1st" has no space after the "1" but the "st" did not jump to superscript as it should in MS Word. In your recreation, it appears you have put a space after the "1" which is why your "st" doesn't jump either.

Somewhat the opposite problem with the "147th" in paragraph 2. The CBS version has no jump to superscript for the "th" but there seems to be a space after the "7" so you wouldn't expect a jump. In yours, however, you clearly have no space after the "7", yet the "th" didn't jump.

What is the point of these memos? Why write them to yourself and then shove them in a drawer?

Even though the press is trying to insinuate that they were in Bush's file, they weren't.

Why would somebody write a memo to themselves, no CC it to anybody else, and then just leave it there?

Are there other memos about Bush that CBS thought were favorable?

**One thing I just thought of though; when Killian wrote that he was already looking for somebody to fill Bush's spot, I guess the "they made a place for him" rant goes out the door, huh?

Sean Hannity just said, (on his radio show) "Kudos to all you FReepers out there!"

[working from memory here...]

When a guy called in to tell Sean this was up on Drudge, Sean said, "Yeah, but the FReepers got it first. Now, I don't want the FReepers to claim that I get all my stuff from Free Republic.com, but I have a printout here somewhere of where they were discussing this early this morning. They said that '30-year-old memo' was typed in a modern proportional font, using a computer word procesor -- not a typewriter."

"I tell you what, those FReepers must be some of the sharpest folks in America -- they are really on top of what is going on!" "Kudos to all you FReepers out there!"

Oh I get you now. I thought they were fakes from the beginning based on my own personal experience as an executive and having written a few "CYA" memos myself. LOL I can't hold a candle to the forensic abilities of other freepers though. I never once thought of the technical problems with the letters themselves.

Well, there are certainly some theories out there that the Clintons want to sabotage Kerry's campaign in order to lay the groundwork for Hillary's own campaign in 2008. Following that line of thinking, this just might do the trick. I don't know if I buy it, just repeating what I see being said.

Thank you for alerting me to this thread, truly amazing Freeper work. The level of investigative techniques, knowledge and application utilized by Freepers is astounding.

If "journalists" today were half as curious as Freepers are about truth, facts and objectivity we would not be considering the Main Street media in terms of old media, defunct, or medieval.

Yep, FR is the best equipped in world, that's why the internet will be taken away someday by the UN, controlled and monitered, if we aren't careful.

Great JOB to those who discovered this!

A serious proof would be to do the same with the 4 may '72 document, that has the squadon address "centered" at the top. If your duplicate centers automatically the same, then, bingo, we have a winner.

I'm sure you know how you'd have to center manually with a purportional typewriter. Type out the header, figure out exactly how many fractions of a space you'd need, skip over exactly that amount. It wouldn't be pretty.

NO ONE, would do such a thing by hand.

It might have been possible with a "memory" typewriter in the 80's. But I don't think any such thing existed then. I don't even think they had calculators in early '72. If so, then they were very rare and expensive.

Very nice work with the superimposition. Do you or does anyone on this thread have access to a 70's era selectric. The killer evidence would be to type the same message on the selectric and then animate back and forth between it and the MS Word version.
