Note that AP is claiming all four memos, including the two obviously faked later ones, came from the White House. I'd previously read that only two of the memos came from the White House, and the other two were mysteriously obtained by CBS. Is AP lying again?

It is what is known as a "half truth"... CBS provided the WH with copies of the docs one day before the story aired. The WH then released these same docs after the story aired.

From what I have been hearing all day, it would appear that they are. The "memos" as I understand it, were allegedly from Killiam's personal file and were "obtained" by CBS which faxed copies to the WH prior to airing the hit piece on Bush. The WH merely released with CBS sent them if I have followed this correctly.

They are spinnig as fast as they can. In the wake of the revelation these documents are fake they think they can spin it into a negative for the White House. Somebody please explain to me why the White House would knowingly release fake documents that hurt the President? This is becoming ludicrous.

AP is doing two things - they know the documents are fake.
They are trying to point the forgery to the White House instead of CBS, Bartlett, and/or a Clintonista at the Pentagon.
