Not only were multiple machines used, but proportional fonts as well.

Lines 1-10 are in standard evenly spaced fonts

Lines 11 and 12 are in proportional fonts.

The form then goes back to even fonts for a while, and then the bottom section is all in proportional fonts again.

Maybe I'm off base here, but something is wrong with the use of this type of font on Kerry's DD214s from 1972.

And the OFFICAL DOCUMENTS watermark is such a nice touch..."

What I'd like to know .. what are the questions being ask in those sections in which the type style was changed.

Lines #11-12 refer to "type of transfer or discharge"

The size, character spacing and "weight" of the font in these lines are different than those elsewhere in the form.

If you check out the *.PDF linked in post #1, there's not a lot of room for editorializing in lines #11-12 and I cannot make out the military-speak. As one goes through the form, it is clear that it was completed at several different times with different equipment - type at different angles to the form, different typestyles, spacings, weights, etc.
