Not only were multiple machines used, but proportional fonts as well.

Lines 1-10 are in standard evenly spaced fonts

Lines 11 and 12 are in proportional fonts.

The form then goes back to even fonts for a while, and then the bottom section is all in proportional fonts again.

Maybe I'm off base here, but something is wrong with the use of this type of font on Kerry's DD214s from 1972.

And the OFFICAL DOCUMENTS watermark is such a nice touch..."

In light of the potential issue with the forged Killian documents and questions as to why Kerry had his medal documentation reissued during the Reagan administration, one may have to wonder if the files posted on the Kerry website are the real McCoy as well...

I stand corrected in my nasty remark about John Lehman regarding Kerry's citations.

It now appears very clear to me that Mr. Lehman was actually pointing us in a direction that we should be investigating without actually getting political about it himself.

Is there any way he got wind of what was coming and pre-empted it?

Anyway, the J and K from John Killiam's forged signatures match a J and K from John Kerry correspondence, or someone who could sign for him?

If the CBS junk is fake, this question must be raised.
Kerry can make it all go away by signing an SF-180,
so that interested parties can get their own copies
directly from the archives (unless Sandy has been
Bergering around there).

Proportional fonts don't automatically make a 1970
document a fake. But they raise the suspicion.

That "Silver Star with V" stuff is really strange. There is no United States decoration "Silver Star with V". It does not exist. None have ever been awarded as far as I can find out.

I suspect the big political question of the moment is whether to expose Kerry's forgery and fraud. Lots of ramifications. Remember Nixon won against Kennedy, except vote fraud in Illinois and Texas (which LBJ delivered in return for being Vice President) put Kennedy in office. Nixon did not contest the vote, saying it was bad for the country, whatever that means.

Actually, Bezzlebubba pointed out that possibility that the two different fonts could have been the result of the typist working off a pre-filled form. If you look at form, the proportionally spaced information is the common information that would have applied to most men processed out by this OCS. It is certainly plausible that the office there created a master form by typing the common information once, and used copies of the master for each individual serviceman. This would explain the use of different fonts.

So the question is whether or not they would have used a proportional type font for this common information. This would require a pretty fancy machine and a high level of skill. But since it may have been for the creation of a master form, it is certainly possible that they gave the job to their best typist who used special care.

Add to this that the information typed in the "suspicious" modern font is the general information that does not really apply specifically to Kerry, and a forgery looks less likely.

Of course, the whole document could have been prepared later, and the use of the proportional font is the "tell". These days, nothing would surprise me.

Definately Not a Liveshot rumpswab but as I myself have a 214, have to say the differences in typeface could have a simple explanation.

In the past, as when this one was completed, the forms used carbon and admin types had to use typewriters to fill them in. If there were common items on the form, sometimes they would be made up in advance and then only the personal info would need to be filled in---remember, pre-word processor days.

FOR EXAMPLE: Block 28 is a perfect example of this as section a and section c were probably done in advance and section b was specific to Liveshot.

FWIW, nowadays, the forms are completed using an electronic program so all the fonts on the form look the same no matter what block. Having been in long enough to have used both methods, an obvious improvement.

Look very close at this document.....the fonts are DIFFERENT SIZES in several places.

Ah, the good old days when 214's were typed by hand... and any mistake in the shaded area rendered the entire form void.

I got out of the separations business prior to the advances in word processing... I can only imagine what a timesaver that is!
