THE "New" CBS BUSH DOCUMENTS: Let's do some investigating

These are the NEW documents "discovered" by CBS with conjunction with their Ben Barnes expose/confessional tonight regarding George Bush's National Guard service.

They've gotten some interesting comments on the Live Thread, so I thought I'd give them their own thread so you people out there with the knowledge can dissect them for their accuracy/truth/existence.

Yeah, but I can guarandamntee you that a Lt.Col in the Texas National Guard didn't have access to anything but a government issue standard typewriter.

I haven't seen it mentioned, but when I was in the service, the format for any date was ALWAYS "month, day, year", period. I've had several people remark that I must have been in the military because I still use the "month, day, year" date format.

i dont know much about fonts etc but the people who called that the line,

"not happy today either"

as a drop in are correct, just blow up the pdf and compare the letters to those in the paragraph above, they are all different

also

look at the date on the top and compare it with the 187th below

same number but they look different,

the relationship between the 1 and 8 are different, the 8 flys above the 1 on the date and is exactely lined up with the 1 on the 187th.

also the 7 on the date is different than the 7 on the 187th

I increased the brightness on the redacted section in the May 4th PDF: http://www.cbsnews.com/htdocs/pdf/BushGuardmay4.pdf Forgery... there is no way redacted material in any military document would ever be visible. Ever.

I know the typewriter my parents had had special character keys for things like 1/2. It seems to me it had a "th" key too - but I don't remember.

Can anyone find any redacted material in ANY official military/government records that is legible? I sure can't.

Interesting theory, but...

When I was stationed at Patrick AFB (1971-74), I distinctly recall our office (Office of Public Information) had a correcting IBM proportional typewriter along with our standard-issue Selectrics. Nobody wanted to use the damn thing. It was a pain in the butt to use because to backspace you had to use a table that prescribed the number of "ens" for each letter for both upper and lower case. I believe (but I'm not sure) that the typeface was some form of Times-Roman rather than Courrier.

Before my recollections are questioned, I want to assure you that the AF Good Conduct Medal listed on my DD214 is entirely legitimate.

Given the existence of the Executive, and the Composer, I think that perhaps it is not quite a lead pipe cinch based on proportional font alone, though it remains exceedingly unlikely.

If somebody could attempt to reproduce this in an IBM Executive, that would shed some light on this. It has been almost perfectly duplicated using MS Word on a PC.

Despite the existence of the IBM Executive and Composer, the other circumstantial indicators this is a forgery are still glowing white hot, and all of them together make it rather compelling.

Don't know if you've seen this yet, but it now seems that the White House DID release two of these memos, but, hold on now, they got them from CBS a couple of days before the story came out, so it doesn't really constitute a vindication of the documents' authenticity. They still originate only from CBS' source.

Could not make the "th" smaller than the metal keys.
This is clearly smaller than the th keys.

The reserves and Guard generally use older office equipment than that used by the regulars.

There is too much information on these threads to keep up with, but there appears to be some inconsistencies that point to forgery.

Has anyone come up with a reason why they would have created forgeries that don't say anything bad against Bush? Maybe these are a dry run for the October stash, yet to be released?

Actually, Grounded Supports the argument that Bush was not due to have his flight exam until July. It notes that he was suspended from flight status in August.

I frequently produce redacted documents in my line of work. You have to go over the redaction with a marker and then xerox the page so that it will be opaque on the copy. Otherwise, the redaction will be visible on the original by doing what you just did.

Whoever did this was an amateur.
