Great Thread, for posterity.
bump for Buckhead post #47....
Required Reading BUMP !!
And bump for Texasforever Post #27, Texasforever Post #38 and Texasforever Post #46.
Buckhead was the first Freeper to give indisputable technical evidence that the documents were forgeries in Post 47.
However, looking over the thread, it was Texasforever that first noticed that the memos did not look quite right and stated "I don't believe these are legit documents" :

Did you notice that NO ONE was CC'd on those memos?

And what does that mean?

It means he , if he actually wrote them, didn't see fit to send the memos to anyone else. So why write them in the first place?

I think they were his private papers?

"I think they were his private papers?"
So why write them? If he was REALLY trying to CYA then he would have sent his concerns up the chain otherwise he would be in deep Sh%T if he had to explain later why he didn't let someone else know about a supposed violation of a direct order. Nope I don't believe these are legit documents since CBS will not say who they got them from so the originals can be examined.

I was doing some research on this thread and in various places Howlin is given credit along with Buckhead for getting the ball rolling on the memogate story. I see Buckhead's contribution but I am not sure of Howlin's contribution. Howlin was simply part of the convo going back and forth and, early on, Howlin seemed to be contradicting the idea from Teaxsforever, that this memo was dubious. I think Texasforever may have actually been the first to raise doubts as to its authenticity...
This was not the definitive thread.
Howlin started the ball rolling by first, hosting the original "live thread" on which TankerKC made his comment to the effect, "there's something funny about these docs - they don't look at all like they should if authentic - I was in a unit like this at the time - someone get a screen capture when the west coast airs this and please post so we can examine in detail". Howlin got into some banter with him, as did others, about what was happening. Robert... PE was on a different thread at the time, and made a similar comment. Very soon after the documents were posted, buckhead made the observation on the famous post #47, or whatever, that they were in proportional font, and that nailed it to really allow a specific determination that they were manufactured in the present day, and that gave the blogs something to really chew on.
However, TankerKC's initial observation was correct and there is also the proof that the style of the forgeries indicts them in itself, and Howlin and many others contributed to fleshing that out.
However there
I just had to put my initials on the walls of history. :D
Congratulations Buckhead.
