Best and worst cities for dating...
Prweb ^ | 9/4/04 | Sperling

There are some U.S. cities that just don’t have what it takes when it comes to dating. Take Pittsburgh, PA for example.

(PRWEB) September 4, 2004 -- There are some U.S. cities that just don’t have what it takes when it comes to dating. Take Pittsburgh, PA for example. According to a recent study conducted by Sperling’s Best Places and featured on MSN.com, the city ranks as one with the lowest number of 18-24 year-olds. So, if you’re a Pittsburgh single between 18-24 years old looking to “hook up” with someone your age, your chances are probably slim to none.

Study experts for Sperling’s Best Places identified several cities as the “worst cities for dating” including Houston, TX; Pittsburgh, PA; Atlanta, GA; Louisville, KY; Minneapolis-St. Paul, MN and Wichita, KS.

These cities had one or more reasons for not measuring up, including:

Lowest percentage of singles. Jewelry is least often bought as a gift in this area. Least number of bars, coffee shops or other “hotspots” to meet singles.

So, what can single people do?

“It’s good to be proactive, but instead of packing up and moving to a different city or state in search of more singles, consider joining a dating service. A dating service often has a large membership database and the ability to accommodate thousands of members,” said Paul A. Falzone, CEO of The Right One and Together Dating Service.

Meeting the Dating Demand Catering to more than 125,000 members at over 60 locations throughout North America, The Right One and Together Dating Service is the largest bricks and mortar dating service in the industry, offering a more consistent product, a greater number of potentially compatible mates and added value of flexibility in transferring memberships to another geographic region.

Not surprisingly, The Right One and Together Dating offices are located precisely where lack of singles makes dating near impossible. The Right One offices are located in Louisville, KY, Atlanta, GA and Pittsburgh, PA. Together Dating meets the demand of singles with offices in Wichita, KS, Minneapolis, MN and Houston, TX.

“When new members provide us with feedback on what made them decide to join our dating service, more often than not it is because they want to be proactive in finding that special someone. Yet, the old real estate adage ‘location, location, location’, can also ring true in the dating world. If the demographic in your area is made up of mostly senior citizens and you’re a single 20-or 30-something trying to find a date with someone around your own age, the choices are going to be very limited. There’s no guarantee that your path will ever cross with those other single folks. Consider enlisting the help of professional matchmakers. Don’t leave dating all to chance,” Falzone explained.

About Sperling’s Best Places Sperling’s Best Places has been analyzing data of people and places and rating them for publications for nearly 20 years. For more information about Sperling’s Best Places, visit www.BestPlaces.net.

I would think SF would be somewhere near the bottom, if one is looking to date someone of the opposite gender.

("SF...somewhere near the bottom..." No pun intended.)

Sounds about right for Minneapolis. Still single, but fortunate that I basically fell into a large group of friends by chance. Especially since I work from home!

I would hate to be single and move here (Like I did) because this town is definately cliqueish

True, but for us old folks (I'm 41) there is a ton of action. Between my first and second marriage I actually picked up a womam at Kroger. How Mid-Western middle class is that? LOL!

One of my best friends lives in Pensacola. He once told me it was a terrible city to meet girls. All those Naval aviators I guess.

Despite what he said, I always noticed he seemed to do very well. I also think the city has more than it's share of lookers.

Hmm, I'm not so sure this is an X-er ping. This article cites people aged 18-24. Someone 24 now was born in 1979 or 1980, barely Gen-X, if at all.

And regarding the article, give me a break, of course cities aren't good for these age groups, colleges and universities is where these people (18-24) should be! How about one that hits 24-40s singles?

You know, it's funny......I used to live in pittsburgh and never had any trouble there (#73?). At the same time, this reinforces for me just how much living where I am is than there....;^p (that's south of MAcon, GA for y'all who don't know me) There's pretty much a lack of everything here.

oh, and the dating service thing is worthless unless you are near a major metropolitan center, for anyone else who is interested in reading this.

Boy, I am glad that I travel a lot for my job.

Well you can quickly find 20 random threads and just Bump them to knock this out of your my comments screen. :-D

But I'm surprised Burlington isn't on the list, It's a fun little city (Well before the smoking ban sucked all the fun out of it).
