LONDON (AFP) - Britain will withdraw from Iraq (news - web sites) when democratic elections rather than "terrorists" and supporters of ousted president Saddam Hussein determine its future, Prime Minister Tony Blair vowed.
"Yeah, there is an exit strategy," Blair told a reporter who asked if there was a way out of the violence and turmoil in Iraq. "We go when the job is done."
"And the job we're trying to do is to help the Iraqi people and the Iraqi government ... to allow the future of Iraq to be determined by the ballot box" rather than by "terrorists" and Saddam supporters, he said.
"However difficult it is, we will see it through," Blair stressed.
"If we get the right result, the impact of that will be hugely powerful right across the world," Blair said.
Success would show that the propaganda from extremists -- who claim that the Americans only want oil -- was false, he said.

Amen!
"We go when the job is done."
Good job, Mr Blair.
Which are they? "Bribed" or "coerced?"
Bump!
I've less than no time for the Prime Minister's domestic policy, or most of his foreign policy for that matter. However, when it comes to the War on Terror he realises that he is the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, and a surrender, any surrender, would be to abandon all pretence at defending the realm.
In this regard, and this regard only, he can stand alongside Thatcher, Churchill, and our other great leaders.
British Allies ~ Bump!
Ping!
Thank you , Mr.Blair .
