Officals say 180 people are still missing after the school siege in the Russian town of Beslan, Sky News reports.

It now raises the prospect that more than 500 adults and children were killed during the three day drama.

On Sunday morning the death toll was put at 358 including all 35 gunmen, who died when Russian troops stormed the building.

The news of the higher casualty rate came as residents of Beslan began to bury the victims.

Relatives of the deceased have been allowed to enter the burned out shell of the school gymnasium where 1,000 people were held for 62 hours.

Officials say 323 people including 156 children were killed-excluding the hostage takers-and more than 540 injured, most of them pupils.

Around 450 people are being treated in hospital.

He could start by pulling that Russian construction team from Bushehr Nuke Plant in Iran.

With Putin taking $$$$ from Saddam in the Oil for bribes program, how much do you think he is getting from Iran?

How could 180 people in a school still be missing? What happened to the bodies?

Basayev started the war, the blame lays with him.

This is the low end of the estimates, I've seen Russian reports of 260 missing and 600 possibly dead.

"The Russians killed 10% of the entire Chechen population in the 90s for trying to become a sovereign nation..."

If I recall, it was for far more than just wanting sovereignty. I recall hearing of atrocities similar (but not of the same scope) to this one before Russia came down hard on Chechnya. I just pinged someone else (MarMema) who might have more details.

"I will then ask why the Russians ever entered Chechnya in the first place in the 19th century."

And some might also ask why we entered North America when we did, displacing the natives of this country when we did so. It's now a fact of history and of geography, and the Native Americans have had to live with it--the same is true of Chechnya.

Then there was another explosion and then a firefight broke out. "I was sitting there with my face in my knees and my hands over my head. Then I turned my head and I saw our guys there, shooting. Three of them covered us while the fourth led us outside."

There were two stories on that link. Both called the murderers, kidnappers rather than terrorists. The media the world over continues to kiss up to them.

I can't believe after two days most if not all bodies have been recovered from the rubble. However, we all know the media runs on rumor and exaggeration, so whatever number of missing and dead is the greatest, that's the one that will be reported.

You are so full bs. Before I knew the Chechens were muslim, I cheared for the Russian invasion. I didn't really know why. It just felt like they were doing the right thing for a change.

So their solution is to kill women and children. Yeah, that makes sense. I'm sure that will win them their own country sooner. I go with what someone else said--grant then their sovereignty and then declare war on them--more honest then the devilish tactics they are using. At least women and children know to batton down the hatches and take cover when a war is being waged.
