Alan Colmes is a great practitioner of this tactic and needs to be confronted on it.
It's funny, though: even now when people agree with my points, they usually preface their statements with "I don't usually agree with LS, but . . ." so as to insulate themselves from their colleagues' comments.
Think of The Maltese Falcon where 'Bogie grabs Joel Cairo(the effeminate wuss played by Peter Lorre) by the collar and cuffs him. Lorre bleats, I told you nevvver to touch meeee! and 'Bogie says 'sumpin like, I'll slap 'ya and you'll take it!
It makes for great film-noir!
