Well, I hear, "what good would it have done, if ..." Well, maybe, the President could have asked key questions and made some key decisions? Questions: Who did this? Could there be more planes? What steps should we take to protect the American people? Decisions: Ground air-traffic; Evacuate potential targets, such as the Pentagon; Give authority to shoot done planes under specific conditions. Some things to think about.

You mean something like telling his Chief of Staff, Andy Card, to get back to him pronto with more info?

Or did you mean he could have sat in a senate office too stunned to think for 40 minutes the way Lurch did?

He admitted in an interview that he and some other senators just sat there stunned from the time the second plane hit until the Pentagon was hit - that was 40 minutes later.

Kerry apparently forgot he was on the record saying that, when he parroted the esteemed propagandist Michael Moore concerning GWB continuing to sit in a classroom for 7 minutes.

You are remarkably uninformed for a troll. I thought everyone knew the 7 minute nonsense was trumped weeks ago.

Okay. So, in the 40 minutes between the second plane striking the WTC and the plane striking the Pentagon, John Kerry sat, stunned and unable to think.

In those same 40 minutes, President Bush spoke to the Vice President, the director of the FBI, the National Security Advisor, and the governor of New York; addressed the nation; and rushed to Air Force One.

Oh, and he also read a book.

Well than it would be safe to assume that with all the connections Kerry has had with Communists over the years that he has someone on his staff at this very moment who is linked to communist governments somewhere.
When he started off as Senator he had a guy on his staff named Gary (Gareth) Porter who was from the KGB/Cuban-linked think tank Institute for Policy Studies. There's a little on him here:

Kerry, the Sandinistas, and the Institute for Policy Studies (IPS)

I have friends who were there with the President at the elementary school. There was a lot of behind the scenes activity, not the least of which that a van load of swarthy middle east men were shadowing the Presidential motorcade.
The question is not "what was the President doing?" the questions is "what was his staff doing"? They were clearing the decks and preparing AF1 for take off. Air Force One is the mobile situation room for defense and attack.

Here eruditevoter if you can read, try this:
(Ping to Deb as this may interest you in relation to the Fulbright issue we were discussing on another thread; christie, you may also be intersted in the Fulbright reference.)
I don't know what Carter's deal was--whether he was a Commie or just a dupe or what--but here's one interesting thing I found:

Christopher Andrew and Vasili Mitrokhin, The Sword and the Shield: The Mitrokhin Archive and the Secret History of the KGB, 290-291, 627n84:

"Though [Gus] Hall tended to overstate the influence of undeclared members of the CPUSA within the Democratic Party, there was at least one to whom the Centre attached real importance during the 1970s: a Democratic activist in California recruited as a KGB agent during a visit to Russia. The agent, who is not identified by name in the reports noted by Mitrokhin, had a wide circle of influential contacts in the Democratic Party: among them Governor Jerry Brown of California, Senator Alan Cranston [California], Senator Eugene McCarthy [Minnesota], Senator Edward Kennedy [Massachusetts], Senator Abraham Ribicoff [Connecticut], Senator J. William Fulbright [Arkansas] and Congressman John Coyers, Jr [Michigan]. During the 1976 Presidential campaign the agent was able to provide inside information from within the Carter camp and a profile of Carter himself, which were particularly highly valued by the Centre since it had so few high-level American sources. On one occasion he spent three hours discussing the progress of the campaign at a meeting with Carter, Brown and Cranston in Carter's room at the Pacific Hotel. His report was forwarded to the Politburo. During the final stages of the campaign the agent had what the KGB claimed were 'direct and prolonged conversations' with Carter, Governor Brown and Senators Cranston, Kennedy, Ribicoff and Jacob Arvits [Javits?--Fedora]. Andropov attached such importance to the report on these conversations that he forwarded it under his signature to the Politburo immediately after Carter's election."

[Reference from 627n84: "[Mitrokhin archives] vol. 6, app. 1, part 4; t-3,76. Mitrokhin had access only to reports in FCD files based on intelligence provided by the agent, not to the agent's file itself--probably because he had been recruited by the Second (rather than the First) Chief Directorate during a visit to the Soviet Union. Within the United States he seems to have been run from the San Francisco residency."]

Did Bill Clinton act like one while Monica was under his desk?
Did Kerry act like one when he sat mindless and stuned for 40 minutes?
Did Kerry act like one when he blasted rice and a grenade fragment up his backside?

My dear, that's why the President has a staff and a cabinet of good, solid people who were in overdrive during those seven minutes.

But, you knew that. Say hello to Phoebe the Viking Kitty:
