Letter from New York (it looks grim for Kerry)
San Francisco Chronicle ^ | September 4, 2004 | Farai Chideya

Posted on 09/04/2004 6:14:08 AM PDT by Cincinatus' Wife

.......... On Monday night, the Republicans were having their party, so I had mine. I gathered friends -- New Yorkers, San Franciscans and one stray Angelino -- for cocktails, snacks and a chance to observe the political system from the relative safety of a Manhattan living room. We put boring speeches on mute, but jacked up the sound when John McCain and Rudy Giuliani took the stage.

A typical conversation went like this:

Guest A: Ohmygod. Bush screwed McCain so hard in the 2000 primary, why is he kissing Bush's butt?

Guest B: Pass the vodka.

Guest A: I mean George W. all but called him an insane Vietnam vet.

Guest B: Pass the vodka. .........

........Near the end of the night's broadcast, I took a poll. How many people thought Kerry was going to win?

The room contained liberal and Democratic voters of different races, national origins, incomes, professions and generations. Not a single solitary one raised a hand.

My stomach did a little flip-flop. I'd underestimated the depth of John F. Kerry's problem, his lack, to quote a phrase from the Bush I years, of the "vision thing." No one can win the presidency without mobilizing the base, and Kerry's base, uninspired and dispirited, is weakening. Along with the Republican convention, this week's big political news is a series of shakeups in the Kerry campaign, a last-ditch attempt to correct course. It's now or never. Or to quote another Bush phrase, "bring it on."

Quoting GWB with a line that Kerry plagiarized and tried to use as his own...

"No one can win the presidency without mobilizing the base, and Kerry's base, uninspired and dispirited, is weakening"

It's incredible. Kerry is one of, if not the most liberal mainstream politicians in the country, and he can't mobilize his base. Is that an indictment of him, or his base? Of course, the base of the Democratic Party is a bunch of wackos, and they make Kerry look positively moderate, but still. I guess they don't hate Bush enough.

Maybe Kerry is just too ugly to win.

I agree. He meant to say, "My spinkster muscles tightened like a vise".

Bringing in more Clintonista's for a last-ditch attempt to correct course is another example of how mentally challenged John Kerry appears.

Psst, John. These people aren't joining your staff to help you win. They are there to insure you lose by double digits.

Here is a tiny example of how insane these Kerry supporters are.

Yesterday, Bush spoke to a crowd of thousands in Milwaukee. It is impossible to overstate how enthusiastic his supporters are, but at least 1/2 had signed up tp do phone bank calls when they picked up their tickets for the rally. After his speech, there was a counter rally across the street from the venue with about 50 Kerry supporters, using a bullhorn. I didn't pay any attention to what they were shouting. What I did notice were three women, pushing storllers of small children and holding signs that said:

"Moms against war" and "We're tired of Bushit".

Nice language to use in front of your children, mom.

All we have to do now, is show up on Nov. 2 and vote Bush-Cheney! Polls and speculation mean nothing unless we make it a reality by voting.

JFKerry a "pure blood" liberal did not take notes from bjclinton. JFKerry is sealed in a "time" capsule of 60's & 70's and has never been required to leave history and live in the present.

The closest JFKerry has come to date to emulating clinton is that he will change his eye color depending upon which audience he is in front of.

Personally I would love to hear a reporter ask him why he changes his eye color, especially when he sports those "blue" eyes or those "green" eyes.
