Sounds like you just need to find an antidote. Your mother sounds like one of those people who are easily swayed, and generally they are swayed by whatever they most recently heard or saw; that it contradicts the last thing they were swayed by doesn't matter. (One of my sisters is like that, though not in political matters.)
Or, I may add, for the 2 - 3 million people killed in SE Asia after we abandoned them. Kerry predicted 3,000 would have to leave VN after we pulled out.
