OK, evolution in action - average human intelligence goes up a fraction of a point! Making yourself a human shield is not a useful survival trait.

But, from a political standpoint, it would probably be better to just send some troops to quietly clear the area out, flatten the shrine, and then post the notice that this is just the first phase. At the same time, you'd need to get effective control of Pakistan's nukes (I assume they're still the only Muslim country with nukes).

They are pretty useless as long as they are in Pakistan. We could certainly prevent them from being moved to a place where they would be effective. I'm not sure they have a delivery system that's sufficient to pose a risk to the area. Obviously I have NO understanding of what I am discussing here, just sorta 'blue-sky' ruminations!
