Vets take swipe at bridge flag thieves
New York Daily News ^ | 9/03/04 | PETE DONOHUE and GREG GITTRICH

Bring back the Brooklyn Bridge flag!

That was the cry yesterday from veterans alarmed by the apparent theft of a U.S. flag from high atop the bridge by anti-Bush protesters.

The battle-tested veterans took aim at the suspected thieves and held out hope that the Stars and Stripes had not been destroyed.

"It's disgraceful," Vietnam veteran Tom Shannon, 54, said from VFW Post 107 in Marine Park, Brooklyn. "They should be prosecuted. I believe that 100%."

In order to hold someone accountable, cops first must determine what happened to the missing 12-by-18 foot banner.

NYPD officials said they were investigating the flag's disappearance but stopped short of confirming that protesters had breached tight security at the bridge and swiped it.

The Daily News revealed yesterday that the banner went missing from its perch atop one of the famed span's 273-foot towers sometime Tuesday, as cops and protesters squared off throughout Manhattan.

A city transportation worker noticed that the flag was gone Wednesday morning. The Department of Transportation, which oversees the bridge, called police and put up a replacement flag that afternoon, officials said.

An anonymous press release posted on the Internet the same day claimed responsibility, saying the flag was being "held hostage."

The statement demanded the release of all RNC protesters and the immediate resignations of President Bush, Mayor Bloomberg and several other Republican officials.

The screed said the flag would be burned early yesterday if the sweeping demands were not met. It was unclear if the threat had been carried out.

"If they do [burn] it, I would beat the hell out of them myself," said Joe Stewart, 83, commander of VFW Post 2348 in Long Island City, Queens, who served in the Army at Pearl Harbor.

"You're supposed to respect the flag," Stewart said, as though he was readying for battle. "It's your country's flag."

It shouldn't be difficult to trace the Internet post back to person who posted it.

What the hell was the bridge tender doing while the flag was being stolen, or don't they have a bridge tender? Here in New Jersey the Coast Guard has bridge tenders around the clock at bridges too small and unimportant to even have names. Don't they have anyone protecting the Brooklyn Bridge?

The original story, the flagnappers' ludicrous manifesto on Indymedia, led to one of the funniest strings in recent FR history. This led to a direct confrontation with indymediots, including one moonbat who referred to us as "Halliburton's hate-slaves."

This flag was private property. As a priceless symbol of our nation, placed by its owner in a public venue, this act was grand theft and should be prosecuted as such to the full extent of the law. That flag's ownership is still firmly in the hands of the American who placed it there, regardless of its potentially unfortunate location.

I hope it is returned.

But I can't agree with the Republican plank to support a flag defense amendment. Our flags should be defended as our own, private, priceless property, yes. And of course our city, state, and federal flags should be protected as community property. But we have sacrificed hundreds of thousands of lives to defend our first amendment right to free speech. If some loser wants to burn his own property in protest, the state does not belong in the discussion -- as long as it is his own property, bought and purchased.

As one veteran said, "I fought and almost died to defend America's freedom of speech. I defended your right to burn the flag. But you'd better not try to burn mine."

The flag will probably reappear just before the maggot infested protester burns it in the name of "free speech". All the libs in the area will cheer.

Original story and flagnap ultimatum from Moonbat central

Well, two can play that game

FROM: INTERNATIONAL ZIONIST CONSPIRACY (TEXAS-AZTLAN-UNDER-OUR-HEEL-AND-HIPPIES-CAN-KISS-MY-JEWISH-ASS Branch).

TO: ALL MUMIA CONG, FIFTH COLUMN MEDIA, AND RED DIAPER BABIES (who know how to read)

MUMIA and CHE T-SHIRTS HELD HOSTAGE!

200 T-SHIRTS BEARING THE LIKENESSES OF ERNESTO "CHE" GUEVARA AND MUMIA ABU JAMAL HAVE BEEN "LIBERATED" FROM A HEAD-SHOP IN MARIN COUNTY, CA!

Portraits of revolutionary heroes held hostage until Moonbat Empire meets our demands!

by flag liberators (No verified email address) 04 Sep 2004 Modified

This is a press release to be sent out directly to all major and moonbat lefty-media demanding the flogging of all jailed RNC protestors, the release of remaining gulag prisoners; and various other unlikely demands; or the captured commie portraits (kidnapped last night) WILL be burned.

To Noam Chomsky, George Soros, Osama bin Laden and International ANSWER:

As residents and citizens around the country become increasingly outraged at the assault on democracy in the streets of New York City, and as these citizens continue to watch closely the situation of unpunished rioters and seditionists from the protests against the Republican Convention, these same said citizens awoke this morning, Sept. 4, 2004, to the sight of 200 Che/Mumia t-shirts suspended over an open pit bar-be-cue near Midland, Texas with four gallons of lighter fluid and my trusty Vietnam era Zippo standing by.

Yes, these revered icons have been kidnapped, and are being held hostage, until the following demands are met:

1. The immediate flogging (39 lashes with cat-o-nine-tails) of all detained RNC protestors with or without any further charges.

2. The immediate release of the flag-napped Old Glory from the Brooklyn Bridge (or its replacement by one of equal value) and the surrender of the flag-jackers to revolutionary Texas justice; and the release of all political prisoners currently being held in Syria, Lebanon, Iran, Libya, Soddy Arabia, and the people's Republic of China.

3. The immediate resignations of Tom Brokaw, Peter Jennings, Dan Rather, Jacque Chiraq, and the faculty of the University of California at Berkeley; and the imprisonment at Guantanamo of Michael Moore, Ted Turner, Jane Fonda, Jeanine Garofalo and a host of others; the public hanging of North Korean leader Kim Jong Il, as well as the resignation of John Kerry and that doofus lawyer from the Democratic Party and their replacement by Zell Miller and Joe Lieberman as the party's Presidential nominees.

Until these conditions are met, human beings are continuing to be deprived of true freedom, and the asinine t-shirts that help deprive them of it will remain a hostage.

You have until midnight tonight to fulfill these conditions, at which point the kidnapped portraits will be burned if the conditions have not been met.

To those who wrap themselves in pop-culture iconography, raise it over occupied high schools and crack-houses around the globe, and speak of liberation abroad, we give you a choice: set them free and resign, or MUMIA and CHE WILL BURN.

I had the privilege early last evening to hear Gary Bauer speak to a Family Foundation group in my state. During the questioning period, someone asked him about the GOP convention and he told a hair raising story about his own experience with the demonstrators outside. In short, he told us most of those demonstrators were thugs and if such people had turned up at the DNC convention, the convention itself would have been ignored as the media would have covered the outrageous, lawless and dangerous conduct of the demonstrators. It was chilling when he said that if this country is ever invaded by any outside force, these people will join the invaders against America. Even some of the well-dressed demonstrators who hold jobs stated that they approved of Iraqi's killing American soldiers in that country. The media largely ignored these stories. Folks, I never doubted that the leftists hate America..It is "in your face" everywhere and it is really a clash of values. According to Bauer, it is a clash between those who believe in family, work, faith, integrity, honesty, traditional values, etc., as opposed to those who want a nation where anything goes if you can get away with it..where you do what feels good regardless of how destructive it turns out to be. Bauer told us that if we do not win this civil war, the prize for them will be our children. This truly is the most important election of our lifetime. By the way, he had very positive things to say about the convention.

"NYPD officials said they were investigating the flag's disappearance but stopped short of confirming that protesters had breached tight security at the bridge and swiped it."

Tight security? Not very tight if protesters(plural) could take down a 12 foot by 18 foot flag.
