Ping!
Prayers for the hostage children!
i just got up, is there any report of what exploded?
The story is just now breaking- Waiting for details!
I hope the Russians don't try to negotiate with these terrorist bastards.
what if negotiating means te hostages all go free?
Then the terrorists win and will take more hostages/kill more innocents in the future.
Fox just said, a few minutes ago, 2 explosions heard...no details as of yet.
Then the terrorists will take another set of hostages and increase their demands, because they know they'll get what they want.
Thanks for joining yesterday to share your deep thoughts. Say hello to the Viking Kitties on your way out.
so if letting these hostages die means they might not take others, are you wiling to let those kids oarents and teachers die?
Fox reporter at the scene says it is outgoing fire. The terrorists have rocket propelled grenades and are blowing up anything around the school that could be used to hide soldiers.
Reporting same on CanWest Global TV in Toronto...same...nothing further.
Am I willing to kill others so these hostages might live? No.
Sep 2, 7:32 AM EDTExplosions Rock Seized Russian School
BESLAN, Russia (AP) -- Two explosions rocked the area around a school where heavily armed militants, some strapped with bombs, were holed up for a second day Thursday with about 350 hostages in southern Russia. The explosions came about 10 minutes apart, from the vicinity of the cordoned-off school, followed by a cloud of black smoke. No further details were available.
The cause of the explosions was not clear. Earlier on Thursday, Valery Andreyev, the Federal Security Service's chief in North Ossetia, seemed to rule out the immediate use of force.
"There is no alternative to dialogue," the ITAR-Tass news agency quoted him as saying. "One should expect long and tense negotiations," the Federal Security Service official was quoted as saying.
i know it's not up to you or any of us, all we can do is hope for the best
Bang heard near Russian hostage school
Thu 2 September, 2004 12:47BESLAN, Russia (Reuters) - A loud unexplained bang has been heard near the school in southern Russia where hundreds of hostages are being held by an armed gang, journalists say.
Reuters correspondent Oliver Bullough, at the scene on Thursday, said smoke was also rising from the direction of the school, which itself is out of sight of journalists covering the drama.
Bullough said unexplained explosions had been sounding periodically since the start of the siege on Wednesday.
There was nothing to suggest the explosion and the smoke were linked or marked the start of attempts to free the hostages, he said.
