PEARL HARBOR, Hawaii (NNS) -- USS Charlotte (SSN 766) departed for a Western Pacific deployment from its homeport of Pearl Harbor Aug. 25.
According to Cmdr. Dennis Carpenter, commanding officer of Charlotte, during the last several months, the crew has been training non-stop for the upcoming deployment.
Charlotte has completed the rigorous training cycle that all submarines go through," he said. "We look forward to helping keep peace in the 7th Fleet area of responsibility and supporting the global war on terrorism."
Carpenter explained that the hard work and training has paid off, and the crew cannot wait to put the training into action.
The crew is fired up and ready to go. They worked hard with all the training they had to do. Now they look forward to going out there and accomplishing all the missions they trained for," he said. "Although we will miss our families, Pearl Harbor Naval Station has great family support."
The nuclear-powered attack submarine is the fourth U.S. Navy ship to bear the name. The first Charlotte was a 70-ton schooner used by Confederate forces in the Civil War.
Charlotte was commissioned Sept. 16, 1994, at Norfolk, Va., and arrived in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, Nov. 17, 1995.

You are much too modest, He must be as proud of you as you (and we) are of Him!

Charlotte? Isn't she an improved
Los Angeles class? One extremely serious fighting ship.
Your boy, the young SA, looks to be of fine stuff. Looks like he will be a good shipmate. Old Navy enlisted man, myself.
Always a place for a good man in the Navy. A little wild is no problem.
