I'm sure Bush didn't make the mistake of singing "Hail to the Victors" there :-)
Way to go, Jack!
Now can we get Arnie in PA?
Way to go Jack!
Way to go Jack! Only the greatest golfer there ever was!
Anybody got a text of Jack Nicklaus' remarks? He is maybe the classiest guy in all of sports, a true American example and a man of impeccable integrity. His endorsement seals it for W in Ohio, IMHO. If Arnie and Paterno come out for him in PA, that will seal it here as well.
I don't see why not. Arnie's a devout Republican, and in fact there was serious discussion back in the '70s and/or '80s about him running for political office in Pennsylvania.
"His endorsement seals it for W in Ohio, IMHO."
Hrrmm... Dunno about that. I live in Ohio and know little about Jack Nicklaus. He may be well liked in the circles that you run in, but I would say most non-golf playing people would not be greatly swayed by his opinion.
FOUR!!!! more.
Bush has got to do a better job selling his agenda to union famlies in Toledo, Cleveland, and Youngstown if he wants to carry the state.
Also, Franklin county (Columbus) has recently turned "Blue" which is a major failure of the local GOP.
Almost all golfers, from Ben Hogan to Jack to Arnie to Watson to Tiger, are Republicans, one of many reaons to love the sport. If Jack says vote for W, then that's all there is to it.
'Looks like it could be 'rough' for Kerry there now...
I always liked Chris Spiielman during his (too short) career with the Bills -- a real tough competitor, like the person he endorsed today.
Jo Pa has already come out in support of W. I saw him up on a stage at a campaign rally which was aired a few weeks back on CSPAN.
Kerry doesn't golf because you can't play golf without balls.
I dont like Nicklaus, one of the reasons being is that he is very arrogant and a sore loser. Based on personal observation from the Seniors Championsip at the TPC of Dearborn a bunch of years ago.....
good for him that he is a Republican tho....Should impress a lot of his golfing idolizers......
This is surprising. I have heard for many years that Golden Bear was a Golden Donkey.
Jack is for all intents and purposes retired. And the vast (like well over 70%) of PGA Tour players are Republicans. Seniors Tour probably the same. How would this be bad for Jack?
I had always heard he was a dem though.
It would be nice, if you you want to make a cheap shot like that, if you'd provide some documentation for your accusations. A link, a published quote, whatever.
Jack Nicklaus "very arrogant and a sore loser"? Excuse me, but horseshit. He has epitomized "class" throughout his career. He was booed, even cursed, for the sin of displacing Arnold Palmer (another loyal Republican, by the way) as the marquee golf name in the 1970s. He never complained; he let his one-iron do the talking; and he became a lifelong friend of Arnie. When Lee Trevino came along as a rising star (the first non-Anglo to make it big on the tour), Jack spoke out against racist fans who had trouble with a Mexican making it big. Jack Nicklaus has been a great, and lifelong, ambassador for a great game, and he continues his involvement as one of the best golf course architects in the business.
If you, Tabasco, wish to try to tear down a sports icon in order to make yourself feel more important, I'd suggest you find another target.
I can't imagine a better Bush spokesman in Ohio than Jack Nicklaus.
LOL! Good one!
