Listening to Kerry speech at AL convention live

Kerry on local radio at the American Legion convention in Nashville.
He starts off by buying John Glenn's support by promising him another trip into space.
Opening joke about him having a problem keeping his speech under 10 minutes falls absolutely flat.

Not getting much applause. Most of those people are proud to be veterans. Kerry isn't. He said so himself when he returned from the war. No matter what he says today to try to spin it, what he said when when he returned from the war is a matter of Senate record. Surprised the Vets there even clapped at all.

He is explicitly drawing attention to his post-Vietnam actions by claiming he "kept faith with veterans" after he came home.
He didn't say that did he?

I work at the hotel they are meeting in. They are in the Delta ballroom. Sounds like a hundred people or so applauding. The ballroom holds over 5000.
