In perhaps the most stunning morning news show interview I've ever seen, Katie Couric just got through thoroughly trashing Michael Moore.
She began by criticizing the scenes in Fahrenheit 911 depicting a pre-war Iraq of children peacefully playing and weddings taking place. "Wasn't that misleading?" Moore claimed he only used the footage to show the kinds of people killed by US bombing, not to suggest Saddam's Iraq was a "utopia."
Next, Katie said that "many people say the Dems don't want you to be the face of the party."
"Who said that?" demanded Moore. "Well, Tim Russert for one," answered Katie.
She added: "let's face it, many people think you're a jerk."
An obviously hurt Moore responded: "but you don't think I'm a jerk, do you Katie?"
Katie refused to come to his aid: "well, my views aren't important, it's the views of the Dem party."
"But come on, Katie, you know me."
"I really don't know you very well."
"But, come one, from talking after the shows, etc. You don't think I'm a jerk, do you?"
"I really don't know you well enough to say that."
Finally, in a scene so amazing I could hardly believe my eyes and ears, Moore virtually asked Katie out on a date, and was shot down with a classic co-ed line.
Katie asked Moore if he'd be going back to the convention and Moore said he would, probably tonight and tomorrow. Then Moore added: "will you come with me, Katie?"
A shocked Katie replied: "No," then, incredibly, added: "I HAVE TO RE-ARRANGE MY SOCK DRAWER."
Yes, she actually said it. Katie made it clear that she loathes Moore and fears that as the prominent face of the party, he is dragging down her boy Kerry.
An absolutely stunning TV moment. Catch a replay if you can.
Bang! That is exactly correct!
When Perky looks at Moore she is looking in the mirror. And she hates what she sees.
Excellent point.
I'm suprised that she would say that. Dems are usually in love with each other. How discriminatory of her to think he is a fat old ugly toad.
bump
Remind me to get the DVD.
Remember that brilliant final touch after Lonesome Rhodes was bragging (unbeknownst to him, on air) about how clever he was and how stupid and easily led his audience was ? He gets in the elevator from the studio, on top of the world. The camera cuts back between his elevator going down and angry phone calls pouring into the station, the sponsors bailing, and the network brass deciding to dump him. He gets out of the elevator a has been.
But it was still a mighty zot.
Like I said, when you are on the Hollywood A-list, beautiful women will throw themselves at you. You get less and less married. You think you are a big shot and can do better. So why shouldn't Katie Couric go out with him ? Hell, he was in the Presidential Box at the Democratic Convention. Doesn't that rate a tumble ?
I think Katie Couric resented the arrogance of the assumption. This fat slob who was and will be nobody thinks he can be her guy.
"Just where is that written that USA today pulled MM??"
Bwahaha! How can I get a transcript?
The Dems are already starting to distance themselves from Michael the Moore.
Wish I knew. I have to assume though that we'll be seeing and hearing more about this.
Well put and very astute.
Exactly! People are reading this the wrong way. It was a shot at the GOP, not Moore.
"And when she came up with the "arrange my sock drawer" line to blow off his request for a date, I was dumbfounded."
This is the second time that I've seen her interview him on the Today Show. On both interviews, he was flirty with her (on the first interview, he creepily kept leaning toward her to peak at her notes, which she would abruptly pull away). All I can say is her body language and clipped responses to him reeked of "God, you're gross!" Kinda fun to see a liberal shill like Couric be so repelled by one of her own....
I'd be surprised to learn that you actually saw the exchange, because the personal distaste that Katie emanated toward Moore was unmistakeable.
What a laugh.
