Kerry appearance at American Legion - live thread
self

Posted on 09/01/2004 4:46:34 AM PDT by rudy45

Sorry for starting this thread so early. Is this like calling "shotgun" three days before the trip starts LOL?

I was trying to find out the time that the Senator's speech will occur. I found nothing at the Legion website (www.legion.org), nor at the Kerry site, nor at CSPAN. When will the speech be given?

Anyway, here is a thread for people to post their comments.

Sadly, most in my father's family was hard core communist. They believed the utopian promises to the bitter end. They automatically gravitated towards the democrat party.

I hope that some swifties were there to provide plenty of reading material for fellow veterans.

Go study up on the 92 campaign when vets and POW/MIA families screwed 41-- in public. I remember it being shown over and over again, he couldn't even get through his speech.

Wow, thank you! Sometimes I want instant gratification with a Kerry implosion, too. But common sense says if he drags it out, publicly, the humiliation will be total and all the more satisfying for what the RATs and Gore put the nation through last time. A month of shenanigans with hanging chads and whatever other fraud they could think up. This time around, no excuses. They nominated a fool and deserve what they get.

I want to savor Zell Miller's speech, and then GW. Those great photos, the daily dose of GW that freepers post. When I scroll down through them, I always smile and feel better, safe, and so thankful that we're blessed with his Presidency. You know he's been touched by God. That's as plain as the clear look in his eye. No excuses. What you see is what you get. An honest, decent man whose only reason for getting up each morning is to keep America safe from harm. We are so lucky.

Actually, I think our side got lots of quotes to run in ads alongside his voting record. Let them try and defend or deflect from those truths.

After reading your posts celebrating the triumph of JF'nK, I have no idea why you chose the FReepername that you did.

Perhaps 'faithinfrenchmen' would be more apropos.

Direct quote from the LA Times:

'His words were received coolly by the veterans. While Kerry had been greeted with a standing ovation, and received repeated applause when he spoke of his domestic agenda and support for expanded veterans' benefits, the room remained silent as he detailed his view of what went wrong in Iraq.'

Despite their best efforts, even some in the MSM cannot deny that he was not received warmly or with enthusiasm. Better a cool, non-confrontational reception that some of the abject craziness on display in NYC. I don't believe that would have helped our cause--it would have been pawned off as a result of the conservative-dominated population of the AL, a fact already spelled out in print in the reporting on Kerry's speech today by some of the news outlets.

You have been slammed throughout this thread. I, for one, do not appreciate it. You are telling the truth about the results of the American Legion reception of Kerry. Every leftist media organ will use it to further marginalize the Swift Boat Veterans For Truth. They will say the VFW and AL are the REAL veterans and the Swifties are just a little bunch of vicious Bush-bots.

As one poster's nic says, people can "Just Shut Up And Take It" like Vietnam vets have been doing since 1971, but it is wrong for them to try to silence you or anyone else.

Just finished reading through all the posts. Sounds like he flopped....big time. And nervous as hell on top of that. What polite applause he received does not bother me. He is going to have votes in November and the reality is some of them will be vets who belong to the AL.

If what was said about his nervousness is true (and I believe it was, I just did not see it for myself) it could be from several things.

He is not used to losing. His hero routine has worked in every election.

He has no true strategy to win this thing. His arrogance has kept him from listening to his advisors. Even McCain told him "leave Viet Nam alone." He was not capable of leaving Viet Nam alone because this election is not about the future of the United States. It is about him. Period.

He is a control freak and has been successful at it so far. He opened the door to the Swiftees at the convention. Hell, he may as well have sent them an engraved invitation. He no longer controls events. He underestimated the rage of veterans and the power of the internet.

O'Neill is playing a game of chess. Kerry knows they have more ads in the can. Kerry knows more is coming. I honestly think Kerry does not know WHAT they know, only they know something.

So Kerry receives a letter from the Swiftees. Own up to your lies. Own up to your deceptions. Own up to your actions. If you do so, we will back off. It is your decision. However, this is what the consequences will be.

I think Kerry is not only pissed that he cannot control events and his campaign is going down the tubes, but Kerry is sweating bullets.

Agreed. I don't think he ever went.

Big talker. Thinks nobody notices.

Some people do notice.

You're exactly right. The Swift Boat Vets spent more than $840,000 this week for ads hitting new markets...in battleground states, including Florida. Of course. John O'Neill is a humdinger. God bless them all for standing up against Kerry and his RAT lackies.

"From what you heard, did Bush get a better reception?"

I didn't get to see President Bush's appearance yesterday, but from what everyone on the thread has said about it, it was a more welcomed and applauded appearance.

I wonder why, with all the available choices, one would choose a user name as "zot"?

Kerry's internal polling numbers have him in a virtual free fall. He's probably down to the teens and sinking lower every time a Swift Boat Vet ad plays. That's the dirty little secret the main stream media doesn't want you to know. The third Swift Boat ad where Galanti, who was a prisoner of war for almost seven years, says that he and other prisoners suffered torture and worse because they wouldn't confess to having committed war crimes, atrocities, wanton killing of civilians, babies, etc.. but Kerry gave the Viet Cong what they wanted for free. Kerry betrayed all the veterans. He betrayed America and shouldn't ever be Commander in Chief.

How do we communicate the fact that Kerry is dangerous, a fool, and worse? We tell anyone who'll listen what Kerry did in '71. If they don't want to hear about phony purple hearts and self aggrandizement, how about the fact that he never bothered to show up for more than 90 per cent of the senate votes? There's not one single piece of important legislation with his name on it...after twenty years in the senate. this is mindboggling. It means he wasn't interested in his day job. Why? The salary wasn't enough to pay his expenses. He needed a rich wife and was almost in bankruptcy when he managed to snag the rich widow Heinz -- nine years his senior, by the way, and whose eldest son won't have anything to do with his stepfather...clearly he recognized a golddigger when he saw one.

The incredible statement by Kerry that he has a secret plan for the economy that he can't divulge until he's elected. Clearly he means to RAISE TAXES and doesn't dare say so. Another idiotic statement: more secret plans for winning the war on terror, which he can't divulge lest his 'enemies' ruin everything. Does he sound like a nutcase? Nobody in his/her right mind would buy a used car from this idiot, let alone put him in the White House.

Read and read a lot: essays and columns by Mark Steyn and Victor Davis Hanson, as a start. National Review magazine online. There are other blog sites, Instapundit, Belmont somethingorother. Charles Krauthammer is another wise and eloquent writer. You'll be amazed at what's out there and available, and you'll never be at a loss for what to say about Kerry.

Jay Leno: "Speaking at a church in Manhattan, Bill Clinton suggested that the Republicans forgot the Commandment, 'Thou shall not lie.'

Was that only a joke, or did Clinton really say that?

(Thought I heard a snippet of something like that on the radio, but didn't catch it for sure.)

If so, was Clinton insinuating that
(a) Republicans are "behind" the Swift Boat ads, and
(b) that the Swift Boat vets are "bearing false witness"?

Where does it say the American Legion gave him a clean bill of health? From all I've heard, they allowed him to speak, listened politely, and then he ran with his tail between his legs. No real enthusiasm, not many people standing in line to shake his hand. He was very, very nervous. Clearly he could see the audience (which we never saw due to the single, fixed camera), and they weren't hanging on his every word.

Kerry people and his buddies in the media knew he had one chance to schmooze the American Legion. It didn't happen. He failed big time. No apology, not even a pretense. The RATS know it's all over but the shouting. That's why they're talking about the election in '08, because they know Kerry's already lost.

One surefire way to make people loathe Kerry is to mention that he's living off a very rich, stupid woman and wants to raise your taxes and mine. Not hers and his. He wants to take back the Bush tax cuts. He tells people who disagree with him to sit down and shut up. He refuses to release his military and medical records, claiming 'they're my business, not yours.' Pardon me, Kerry. You're a public servant running for a higher office in the public sector. Americans won't vote for a pig in a poke. They're not stupid, although you act as if they are. Desperation, thy name is Kerry.
